Ruben Amorim will be hoping to make some transfers at Manchester United in upcoming windows but has been told to avoid a ‘big mistake’ by selling one player.

Manchester United have had some mixed results under Ruben Amorim’s leadership so far.

Last weekend they beat Manchester City 2-1 before falling to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.

However, the head coach will be primarily paying attention to how the team are growing in his preferred system.

So far, some players have really excelled while others have not. It is quite apparent that the 39-year-old will need signings in order for his style to work properly.

With United’s financial situation not being at a strong point, players will also need to be sold to raise funds to bring in the players Amorim wants.

Stam urges Amorim to keep Dalot

Diogo Dalot looks like he could be one player sold under Amorim, with Real Madrid reportedly interested in the Portuguese defender.

After winning the club’s Player of the Year award for last season, Dalot has had some struggles under the new head coach as he looks to fill in as the left wingback.

However, despite many fans calling for the sale of the 25-year-old, ex-United defender Jaap Stam has warned Amorim that it would be a ‘big mistake’ to let Dalot go.

“Selling Diogo Dalot would be a mistake, he’s been improving season on season and taking a lot of steps,” Stam told Sports Lens.

“He is defensively much stronger and more aware of both his position and his role in stopping the opposition.

“In the beginning, he was lacking that awareness but he is quick and is still working on becoming a better defensive player having made plenty of improvements already.

“He can cross the ball, score goals, and play on both the outside and inside. If you want to win trophies then you don’t sell players like that.”

How does Dalot fit in under Amorim

One of the main things we have noticed in the opening games under Amorim is that Dalot cannot be the most offensive wingback.

So many times United have played the ball to him in space on the left wing and he’s been unable to create a chance or take on his man.

It is no secret that his final third actions are not his strength, with the player better at building the play in the first two thirds of the pitch.

Stam believes that signing someone like Alphonso Davies to play on the left, while moving Dalot back to the right, would bring the ‘balance’ needed in Amorim’s system.

“If United could have Alphonso Davies on the left and Diogo Dalot on the right then they would have that balance and consistency across the width of the team,” he continued. “Selling Dalot would be a big mistake.”
