Ruben Amorim has been told that Matheus Cunha would “love the responsibility” of being the main man at Manchester United amid transfer speculation.
Manchester United have been linked with signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves in the upcoming summer transfer window and there’s no surprises as to why.
Cunha, 25, has 14 goals and four assists in the Premier League this season despite the difficulties experienced at the Molineux Stadium.
Bruno Fernandes is United’s top scorer in the league this term with just eight goals. Rasmus Højlund has three goals in 28 appearances – the same amount as Cunha.
United are looking to sign a new striker but also need quality in the positions behind a number nine, and Cunha could be the solution for that role.
Cunha would love responsibility at United
Many players have moved to Old Trafford in recent years and struggled to deal with the pressure which comes with being a United player.
Cunha, however, shows confidence which suggests that won’t be the case and ex-Real Madrid forward Julio Baptista supports that assumption.
Baptista does not believe that Cunha will be weighed down by the pressure of being at United and instead thinks that his fellow Brazilian would “love to have the responsibility” of representing the Reds.
“Matheus Cunha is an incredible player. Things didn’t work out at Atletico Madrid, but sometimes you need to go about things in a different way, take a different path,” Baptista told footitalia.com.
“Many clubs are looking at him right now, so he just needs to keep doing what he’s doing. He’s doing incredible work, having a great season. If he moves to a big club now, he will show his full potential.
“I love his personality. Some players have been weighed down by the weight of the Manchester United shirt, I don’t think that Cunha is one of those players. I think he would love to have the responsibility of being the main man at a giant club like Manchester United.”
United recruitment this summer is important
United’s recruitment process is going to be important this summer and so many things have to be taken into consideration.
Ruben Amorim will want players who fit into his system and they will also have to offer specific attributes that are missing at Old Trafford right now.
But perhaps the most important thing is the mentality of these players coming in. They have to have the right mindset to deal with the problems that come as a United player otherwise those other attributes don’t really matter as much.

Cunha seems like someone who will be able to deal with that pressure and it would be no surprise to see United try and make a move for him when the summer window opens.
