Ruben Amorim tells Amad Diallo what he needs to do to unlock full potential at Man Utd
Ruben Amorim has told Manchester United star Amad Diallo what he needs to do to unlock his full potential.
Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge at Manchester United ended in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town on the weekend.
Amad Diallo started the game at right wingback and was the standout outfield performer in Amorim’s side. He produced a brilliant assist for Marcus Rashford’s goal.
The 22-year-old has been one of the best performers for United so far this season even though he spent some time on the bench under Erik ten Hag.
It is entirely possible that he picks up his second Player of the Month award for the club after scoring twice and assisting as many during November so far.
However, the main reason that he was not considered a mainstay in Ten Hag’s attack was due to his lack of killer instinct in front of goal.
Amad has extraordinary ability but many believe that, with a more selfish streak in front of goal, he could become a very effective forward.
Amorim has already been impressed with the Ivorian but explains that – alongside the other forward players at Old Trafford – he has to ‘be better’ in terms of efficiency in the final third.
“Of course there is a concern in that,” Amorim said at a press conference on Wednesday when asked about Manchester United’s goalscoring issues.
“But we have to improve as a team. We have quality players that can score so many goals.
“You could feel it in the second-half [against Ipswich], we controlled possession of the ball but we were not dangerous.
“Maybe that’s because we spent the week trying to build-up and then the rest was not there.
“We will try to improve as a team and then Ras [Hojlund], Josh [Zirkzee], Rash will score more goals. Even Bruno has to score more goals… Amad has to be better near the goal.
“All these guys need to improve and we can score so many goals. We need to improve as a team, it’s not about needing a new striker. These players can score more goals.”
United are lacking goals but there are several players who can do much better in the final third. With a good run of form, Amad could prove himself to Amorim and start playing in the more advanced positions in his team.
