Ruben Amorim looked far from impressed with one journalist during his Manchester United press conference after winning against Southampton.

Manchester United claimed a 3-1 victory over Southampton on Thursday evening at Old Trafford, with Amad shining brightly as he sealed a late hat-trick.

Despite the win, Ruben Amorim’s side delivered an uninspired performance and were arguably fortunate to walk away with all three points.

Amad’s exceptional display was a rare highlight, as many United players struggled, including Manuel Ugarte, who was brought off early in the second half.

Ugarte has been one of United’s standout players since Amorim took charge but it was a night to forget for the Uruguayan midfielder, who looked too slow in the middle of the park.

Amorim slams journalist for twisting words

After the game, Amorim admitted in his press conference that Ugarte was “really tired” after playing 90 minutes against Liverpool and Arsenal

Several questions later, one journalist referred back to that and seemed to try and twist Amorim’s words, asking why a £50 million midfielder cannot play every three or four days.

Amorim quickly hit back at that suggestion. “I’m trying to be honest with you guys and I talk openly about the game. And you are focused on what I said about Ugarte,” he sighed.

“Ugarte was tired because he did a great job against Liverpool and against Arsenal and you see it. Maybe, if you look at the game versus Arsenal, maybe Ugarte and Bruno [Fernandes] were the best players. Against Liverpool, they were and they didn’t play against Newcastle.”

“I think that has happened with all the players here in the Premier League. They can play but they don’t play the same way.”

No surprise if Amorim stops being open in press conferences

Amorim didn’t look to be happy to be doing tons of media work when he first joined United, claiming that he had more interviews in one week than he did during his entire time at Sporting.

The United boss is always interesting to listen to in press conferences or interviews but you can tell that he’s starting to get frustrated by some of the journalists.

We’re beginning to see his eyes roll when Marcus Rashford is continuously asked about and the question about Ugarte clearly irked the head coach as well.

It would be a shame, but no surprise, if Amorim stopped being so open in these press conferences. And it would also be ironic since journalists criticised Erik ten Hag for not being so open to the media.
