Ruben Amorim has sent a major hint about his Manchester United XI for the upcoming clash against Everton.
With the November international break finished, Ruben Amorim has resumed preparations for Manchester United’s Monday night showdown with Everton.
United currently sit seventh in the Premier League, level with Tottenham in fifth, just a point behind fourth-placed Sunderland and two off Chelsea in third.
After a rough opening to the season, they’ve steadied themselves with a five-game unbeaten streak and only one loss in their past seven matches.
Everton, meanwhile, are 13th and have delivered a mixed run of two wins, two defeats, and a draw in their last five. Their 2–0 loss to Fulham before the break hasn’t significantly shaken their confidence as David Moyes’ squad gets ready for the trip to Old Trafford.
Amorim sends major Man Utd XI hint for Everton clash
Ahead of the game with Everton, Lisandro Martínez has been back in training and many fans are hoping to see him against the Toffees.
While Amorim claims that the defender is ready to be in the squad, he hinted that a start is probably too soon for him partly due to the form of those in the backline.
Luke Shaw is currently playing in Martínez’s position and Amorim believes he is ‘playing really well’, which suggests the Englishman will keep his place in the team.
“I think he’s almost ready to play,” Amorim said of Martínez. “I don’t know if he’s going to be in this next game, but his spirit, his way of training, the way he pushed his team-mates and the way he plays the game is so important for us, but he needs to be careful.
“He has players in his position that are playing really well. That is my responsibility, that is my decision but I think he’s ready to start going to games.”
Patience right approach for Martínez
Martínez is a better option than Shaw if he is fully fit but Amorim’s careful approach is the right one after the Argentine has missed so much football.
Ensuring that there are no major setbacks for Martínez is the number one priority right now while slowly getting him back to full fitness.
Amorim also regularly changes his wide centre-backs in the second half of games, which means that opportunities to get on the pitch will still come for Martínez even if he doesn’t start matches.
That is likely going to be the case against Everton, and United fans will be excited to see the Argentine back in action after his lengthy spell on the sidelines.
