Rúben Amorim has opened up on the form of Manchester United’s loan players amid Marcus Rashford’s fantastic displays while at Barcelona.
Marcus Rashford has had a fantastic start to life as Barcelona’s new No. 14 following his year-long loan move from Manchester United in the summer.
Since the summer clear-out at Manchester United, Rashford has emerged as arguably the best-performing loanee, with five goals and four assists so far, and has been given consistent game time, playing every minute of the last three matches for Barcelona.
When he returned to England to face Newcastle in the Champions League, he took centre stage, scoring two beautiful goals and taking home the man of the match trophy, reminding everyone of his abilities.
He’s also earned his spot back in the England squad, scoring against Serbia despite only playing 20 minutes in the game. Barcelona have the option to sign the winger permanently for £26 million next summer, which is starting to look like a bargain.
Amorim opens up on United’s loan stars
Rashford and Rúben Amorim had a strained relationship at United. When asked about the wing in January, after his Aston Villa loan, Amorim claimed he’d choose the goalkeeper coach over a player who doesn’t give maximum effort.
However, in a recent interview with Sky Sports, the United head coach has taken a much more giving approach, explaining that he is happy for all the departed stars. Others, such as Rasmus Højlund, left on loan, while Antony sealed a permanent move to Real Betis.
“I am happy for all the players; they deserve to be happy. Sometimes you are in the place that is not for you, but then you go to another place and you are happier; that is natural. I feel the same with Rasmus, I feel the same with a lot of players; with Antony, he has found his place.
“I’m happy with them, I don’t have any personal problem with anyone here. I was a footballer, I know how they suffer, I know how they think, so I am really happy for all of them that they have found the right spot.”
Should he return to England or stay shining in Spain?
It is well known that Barcelona almost always have Champions League football every season, whereas his parent club, United, haven’t had that luxury in recent times.
Furthermore, Rashford’s preferred position is on the left wing, a position that United’s formation lacks. As for the player’s own feelings, he has made it clear in the media that he is happy at his new club and would like to stay at Barcelona.
We have already seen Rashford in Amorim’s formation, both up front and in one of the number 10 positions; neither of them saw him flourish.
It is difficult to make a case for why he should return to Manchester, as he is currently thriving abroad, and most of the fanbase agreed that his time at United was over. Moreover, playing Champions League football will improve his chances of making England’s World Cup squad.
The move to Spain has allowed Rashford to reset his career and get back to his flying best, so his desire to remain at the Camp Nou beyond this season is more than understandable.
