Ruben Amorim sends exciting message to Chido Obi-Martin and Man Utd U18s stars
Ruben Amorim has sent an exciting message to Chido Obi-Martin and the rest of Manchester United’s under-18s stars this week.
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has started getting used to life at Old Trafford, with four games under his leadership so far.
There have been mixed results so far – two wins, one draw and another defeat – but the head coach is slowly implementing his system and ideas.
He is also working hard on the training ground despite minimal time in between games and has offered opportunities to some of the talent within the Academy at Carrington.
Most notably has been the promotion of Godwill Kukonki, who was included on the bench for the trip to Arsenal on Wednesday.
The 16-year-old defender had already travelled with the squad for other games but missed out on the matchday squad. This time he was trusted to be amongst the substitutes.
Of course, Kukonki is not the only extremely talented player within the ranks at Carrington, and players like Chido Obi-Martin, Ethan Ennis and Jayce Fitzgerald are all pushing for first-team involvement.
Thankfully, Amorim was well-known for trusting and developing youth players at Sporting and he sent a message to the talent at United this week to reiterate his stance.
After introducing Kukonki to the squad at the Emirates Stadium, Amorim was asked about the decision to include the teenager.
“He’s 16 but he impressed me a lot,” the manager responded on the club’s channel MUTV.
“So it’s also a sign to the youth players that they can be here. If something happened with the first-team squad, they have to step up.
“I think he’s ready, he’s very adult to handle the demands of the Premier League.”
The likes of Obi-Martin will be listening to that and thinking that they can prove themselves next once the opportunity of first-team training comes around next.
There is a great amount of talent within the youth teams at Carrington. The U18s are in pole position to win the league for a second time running as they sit unbeaten after 10 games.
Amorim certainly seems excited to work with a lot of them.
