Ruben Amorim has admitted two things that need to be improved at Manchester United following his first two months in charge.

Manchester United’s form under Ruben Amorim has been inconsistent, securing only four wins in his first 12 matches, highlighting the challenges he faces at Old Trafford.

While some players have adapted well to Amorim’s system, others have struggled to align with the 39-year-old’s new approach.

It’s clear that Amorim will need additional reinforcements in the upcoming transfer windows, with speculation already mounting about potential signings this month.

Amorim addresses United sale rumours

Amorim was asked whether he is prepared to make sacrifices by selling players to sign new ones this month after various reports claimed this was United’s plan in January.

The 39-year-old rubbished those rumours but also explained two areas which the club need to improve in under INEOS’ leadership.

“I don’t remember saying clearly that I want new players,” the United boss responded. “What I said is that sometimes the profile for this system is different and the players came here with a different idea.

“I don’t remember saying so clearly that we need new players, what I said is that we need to improve recruitment when we are targeting players, we need to be sure they will cope with the demands, sometimes you have to bet a little bit.

“And what I said also is that we have to improve our academy, to bring in young kids that feel the club in the right way and also with those [PSR] rules, we are able to do some business to invest in the team.

“Our ideas is always to keep the best players and the players that we build for this club. I’m very happy, I really like our players, especially the guys from the academy.”

Amorim highlights United improvements needed

Amorim made it clear that he believes the club needs better recruitment and it feels like this is something that United fans have been screaming out for way too long.

A lot of the players the club have signed in recent years have not been bad players, but most of the time they have been recruited without a proper idea of how they fit into the manager’s system.

Jadon Sancho is perhaps the worst example, after the club figured out he wanted to play on the same side of the pitch as Marcus Rashford after scouting him for more than three years.

Many players have not been given the chance to thrive and get the best out of thei strengths at Old Trafford and this is a major recruitment failure which has to be fixed under INEOS.

It was also somewhat surprising to hear Amorim say that the Academy at Carrington needs improvement considering the amount of talent that exists. He is correct about the financial aspect, as United have not been able to get good enough fees for those younge players in recent years.

Otherwise, he may be expecting even more talent to be coming through the ranks at Old Trafford. What it does suggest is that he plans on seriously integrating anyone he feels is ready.
