Ruben Amorim has revealed that one thing about Bruno Fernandes has surprised him since he took the Manchester United job.

Manchester United cruised to a commanding 3-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League on the weekend, with Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho both breaking their extended goal droughts.

Ruben Amorim’s team started strongly and took a well-earned lead before halftime, as Højlund netted for the first time in 22 appearances. The visitors dominated proceedings at the King Power Stadium, maintaining control throughout the match.

Garnacho finally found the back of the net after an earlier goal was disallowed for offside, surprising Mads Hermansen with a sharp snapshot to double United’s lead.

Bruno Fernandes put the icing on the cake with a stunning strike from the edge of the box in the closing stages, securing a well-deserved three points for the Reds.

Amorim reveals “surprising” aspect about Fernandes

Once again, after scoring a hat-trick last time out, captain Fernandes delivered a wonderful performance as he continues to carry United through the season.

Involved in all three goals—scoring one and assisting twice—he has now etched his name into United’s Premier League history.

The Portuguese star joins an elite group of just six players to register 50 goals and 50 assists for the club, alongside Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Eric Cantona, and Ryan Giggs.

It would be easy to assume that Fernandes would be a favourite under Amorim due to their Portuguese connection but the United boss has explained one thing that surprised him about the player.

Fernandes has often unfairly been criticised in the media for his “frustration” at Old Trafford and the United boss admits that kind of criticism travelled back to Portugal.

However, when he started working with the 30-year-old, it quickly became clear to Amorim that Fernandes is a “very good professional” and that his annoyance comes from a desire to win.

“I already knew Bruno… what surprised me the most is the way he works every day, that was a surprise,” the United boss told reporters.

“Even we in Portugal see Bruno with that frustration, and I was really surprised. He’s a very good professional and you can understand that frustration.

“He wants to win and that is a good thing, so that was a surprise for me.”
