Ruben Amorim reveals what he expects from Matheus Cunha during first Manchester United appearance vs Leeds

Ruben Amorim has revealed his expectations for Matheus Cunha during his first Manchester United appearance against Leeds in pre-season.

Matheus Cunha joined Manchester United from Wolves earlier this summer and has been present at Carrington since day one of pre-season.

The Brazilian scored 15 goals in the Premier League last season and is expected to provide a huge boost for the attack next term.

After impressing during the opening weeks of pre-season, Cunha has been selected to start United’s first pre-season clash against rivals Leeds in Stockholm.

He will be eager to impress, with fellow new signing Diego Leon also starting behind him at left wingback.

Amorim reveals expectations for Cunha vs Leeds

Ruben Amorim was desperate to sign Cunha and will be excited to see him in action, and he was asked about the 26-year-old ahead of the game.

Asked by club media for his expectations for Cunha in this game, Amorim explained that his main focus is to see that Cunha understands the demands of his specific position.

“[I want to see] effort,” the United boss said. I need to understand if he’s understanding the position, so that is the most important thing.

“Because we have to improve our physical aspect in this moment. And I have to understand if they are understanding the movements of the team. So, that’s it.

“Not a big expectation. He doesn’t need to think too much. Just, he needs to do his job.”

Cunha will be confident of matching Amorim’s demands

Cunha will be confident that he can match the demands of Amorim. He has played in a very similar role from his time at Wolves.

The Brazilian international excels when driving with the ball and receiving in the half-spaces; a crucial part of playing as one of the no.10s in Amorim’s system.

While Amorim is not asking for goals or assists just yet, those while be Cunha’s own demands of himself entering this game.

He will want to get off to a strong start, and hopefully link up well with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, who are also starting the clash.
