Alejandro Garnacho has been dropped to the bench for Manchester United’s clash against Everton in the Premier League.

Manchester United will be eager to return to winning ways after their defeat to Spurs last weekend as they gear up to face Everton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Ruben Amorim’s side has slipped to 15th in the table following their loss in North London, increasing the pressure to turn their fortunes around.

United will aim to replicate their commanding 4-0 victory over Everton in November, when Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford each scored twice in Amorim’s most emphatic win to date.

However, since that encounter, former United manager David Moyes has taken charge at Goodison Park, overseeing an upturn in form that has lifted Everton to 14th place—one point ahead of United after 25 games.

The Toffees are unbeaten in their last five Premier League outings, with four wins and one draw, which will make for a difficult game for Amorim’s men.

Garnacho benched for United vs Everton

United have once again included several youth talents in the squad at Merseyside. Chido Obi, Sekou Kone and Elyh Harrison are all on the bench.

Leny Yoro and Christian Eriksen have also been named amongst the subtitutes, while Manuel Ugarte returns to the lineup after his absence last week.

Amorim has only made one change to the team that faced Spurs, with Ugarte coming into the team for Alejandro Garnacho, who was criticised for his performance last weekend.

The Argentine being out of the starting team means that Bruno Fernandes will push up into a more familiar position closer to goal, while Ugarte pairs Casemiro in the centre of midfield.

Amorim reveals why Garnacho is dropped from United XI

When speaking to club media ahead of the game, Amorim explained the decision to take Garnacho out of the team for United’s final game at Goodison Park.

Against a strong Everton side, Amorim is anticipating the need for extra physicality in his team, but he also believes that having Garnacho as an option off the bench can be very important.

The United boss only made one change last weekend due to the inexperienced nature of his bench, but this time around he thinks Garnacho help can change the game as a substitute.

“We know that this is a completely different game from the last game against Tottenham,” the United boss told MUTV.

“We will have to win a lot of duels, set-pieces will be important and then the momentum of the players, so we will try to do everything to win the game.”

He added: “It’s really important [to have quality on the bench], especially with a player like Garnacho who can give us a different pace, more one-against-one, so we can change the game with these players and that is really important to win football matches.”
