Ruben Amorim has revealed two reasons why Benjamin Šeško is starting from the bench for Manchester United against Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United make the trip to North London on Saturday to face Tottenham Hotspur, looking to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to five matches.
Ruben Amorim’s side have hit a strong vein of form in recent weeks, claiming wins over Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton, along with a draw against Nottingham Forest.
Tottenham, level on points with United, have endured mixed fortunes at home this season. Their defeat to Chelsea last weekend drew boos from the home fans, though they responded well with a dominant 4-0 victory over Copenhagen in the Champions League.
The sides met four times last season — including the Europa League final — with Spurs coming out on top in every encounter. As Amorim’s men prepare for another trip to the capital, they’ll be eager to turn the tables and prove how far they’ve come.
Amorim reveals two reasons why Šeško is benched vs Spurs
Ahead of the game, Amorim has decided to make a couple of interesting changes to his lineup with the introduction of Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire and Patrick Dorgu.
Benjamin Šeško is one of the players who has come out of the team, with Matheus Cunha set to take his spot up top while Amad and Bryan Mbeumo play behind him.
When discussing the changes made to TNT Sports, Amorim suggested that the decision to switch things up and drop Šeško and others to the bench was due to tactical reasons with the Spurs team, as well as the option of bringing him off the bench later in the game.
“Yes, try to do something different,” Amorim said to the broadcaster. “We have time to work during the week and we have to imagine what our setup is going to do to the opponent.
“So we try to put the bets starting 11 to start the game and then imagine how the game is going to fold and to try to win it.”
Šeško has scored two goals and assisted once in the Premier League so far this season but did struggle last time out against Forest.
Amorim discusses academy record with Fletcher involved
Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo is not included in the United squad to face Spurs due to a knock he sustained in training and academy talent Jack Fletcher has taken his place on the bench.
Fletcher’s inclusion ensures that an incredible record remains intact at the club. An academy player has been involved in every matchday squad for United since October 1937.
“There are some things, especially in our club, that we need to be bulletproof,” Amorim added. “It’s the way we behave, the way we feel the club, and all these small things, like, we are not going to stop with this, with the academy player.
“It doesn’t matter the results, it doesn’t matter anything else, we need to continue with these small details that are the foundations of our club. So, we have that record, we are not going to break that record, and Jack is ready to help us.
“So, we put two things together, to show the people that our academy is also our future, to show the players on our academy they need to be ready, because we are going to need them at some points, and then that Jack is ready to help us.
