Ruben Amorim has revealed three important changes Manchester United have made to their recruitment strategy ahead of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United are heading towards the end of their worst season in decades and the club must make serious moves to improve things at Old Trafford.
The Reds are in desperate need of some quality signings, while also making important sales in the coming months.
Ruben Amorim also needs to show improvement himself in terms of his tactical approach in the Premier League after such a difficult start in England.
Some would argue that this summer window is the most important for United in recent memory, and could be the springboard for positive change if they make good decisions.
Amorim reveals recruitment changes United have made
You cannot blame any supporter for being pessimistic going into the summer. The recruitment is going to be so important and that is an area where the club have failed time and time again in the past.
Asked by reporters this week whether he actually believes that the recruitment is improving, Amorim explained three ways that they are trying to improve in that department.
The United boss stated that they have been improving in their use of data, which was hugely criticised by Sir Jim Ratcliffe when he arrived at the club.
Amorim also said that there is no longer one manager making the decisions on signings like it seemed to be under Erik ten Hag, with the importance of a ‘connection’ across the board for agreeing to signings.
Finally, the 40-year-old stated that they have a clear idea of how United will play going forward, which will allow them to find specific players for the roles within the team, rather than get stuck with square pegs in round holes like they have done beforehand.
“Of course I believe and we are improving in those aspects. We are improving in the data that we want,” the United boss told journalists. “We have a rule that it’s not just a manager that chooses – it has to be a connection. There is no player that comes here without my approval but the opposite is the same.
“That is important for not just one manager to control everything. We are putting all these things to improve the recruitment.
“For me, the important thing in the recruitment is to know how we are going to play and that is really clear. You can point the specific players you want for those positions and we are doing that together.”
These changes should be the standard at United
It is great to know that the club are fully aware that recruitment improvements are desperately needed and that they are trying to act on that.
But at the same time, he changes Amorim mentioned are things that every single top level club should have as the standard.

While it is good to see that they seem to be moving in the right direction, ensuring that recruitment is not driven by one individual – or that these signings are actually coming in to play a specific role in a system – should not be a shocking development.
Perhaps this simply just says more about the recruitment process which was at the club beforehand, which everyone knew was concerning.
