Ruben Amorim has detailed one of Senne Lammens’ really good abilities which will make life harder for Manchester United’s opponents.
Manchester United made four key additions during the summer transfer window, with a clear emphasis on enhancing their attacking options.
Alongside the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Šeško to strengthen the frontline, the Reds also brought in Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
The 23-year-old had to wait patiently for his opportunity, eventually making his debut against Sunderland just before the international break.
Lammens made an immediate impact, showcasing composure and assurance between the posts as he helped United secure their first clean sheet of the season.
Amorim reveals ‘really good’ Lammens ability
Lammens will have a much tougher test against Liverpool, and he will likely be encouraged to play the same kind of lofted passes into the frontline as he did against Sunderland.
Amorim has explained how the Belgian goalkeeper’s ability to play with both feet helps him in these situations as opponents cannot force him to play onto a weaker side.
“Senne has one ability that is really good: he can play both feet, and i’s harder for the opponents to try to make the pressure from one side or the other,” the United boss said.
“They know that he can kick the ball with both feet, and I think that is really important.”
Despite this, the Portuguese coach has also warned his new goalkeeper that he needs to ensure he is ready for the intensity shown in the Premier League on a weekly basis.
Amorim continued: “But he also needs to be ready that people are seeing the games, understanding that he takes a little bit of time to choose, and he needs to be ready for Premier League.”
Lammens can help United build play
Lammens looks assured with the ball at his feet, and it will be interesting to see how he handles playing shorter passes as United look to build through the thirds.
While using long balls to target players like Šeško remains a useful tactic, Amorim will also aim for his side to construct attacks from deeper areas more frequently; an approach in which a confident goalkeeper can play a crucial role.
That style of buildup may not feature prominently in the upcoming clash with Liverpool, but it’s something we can expect to see more of from Lammens in the weeks and months ahead.
