Ruben Amorim reveals key signing Manchester United need, ‘extraordinary’ Premier League star is the standout option

Ruben Amorim has revealed a key signing that Manchester United need to make in order to improve the squad at Old Trafford.

During the most recent summer transfer window, Manchester United brought in three new attacking players after parting ways with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Højlund.

The arrivals of Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo generated plenty of excitement, with Mbeumo proving to be the standout addition following his move from Brentford.

Yet despite these reinforcements, United’s attack remains incomplete. A key weakness in the final third is the lack of quality on the left side.

Cunha and Mason Mount typically fill the role of the left-sided No.10, but both tend to drift centrally toward the midfield or striker positions. As a result, the responsibility of holding width and providing creativity from the flank falls to the left wing-back.

While Amad performs this duty effectively on the right, Patrick Dorgu and Diogo Dalot have struggled to make an impact on the left. United would benefit from a more dangerous attacking option to operate in that area.

Amorim clearly agrees with fans about the lack of an offensive option at left-wingback and he has explained that the profile would have helped against Everton.

“In the last game [against Everton], we should have an Amad with the right foot to put on the other side to play against 10 men,” he told reporters.

“It is these characteristics that in time we will try to get to be a better team. If we are the perfect set-up to play in this way, not yet. But like any team, we need time to put the right characteristics into every position.”

That position has been an obvious problem at Old Trafford since Amorim’s arrival, although there are some doubts about whether two attack-minded wingbacks could work when playing at the same time.

Semenyo is the standout option

Antoine Semenyo of Bournemouth is the standout option if United want an attacking option on that left flank, and he could be available in the upcoming transfer windows.

The ‘extraordinary’ winger has a release clause that is active in January, and that reduces further next summer. United’s interest in him is no secret.

Semenyo’s pace, power and precision would make him a major upgrade on the other options on the left side going forward.

But as mentioned before, Amorim would need to figure out how to deal with having two attacking wingbacks starting games together if someone like Semenyo was signed.
