Rúben Amorim responds to Enzo Maresca’s Alejandro Garnacho claim ahead of Man Utd reunion, “really happy…”

Ruben Amorim has responded to Enzo Maresca’s claim surrounding former Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho ahead of his reunion with the Reds at the weekend.

Manchester United’s start to the 2025/26 season has been a difficult one, having been dumped out of the Carabao Cup in the Second Round, whilst also sitting in 14th in the Premier League after four games.

Pressure has started to build surrounding the position of Ruben Amorim as the United manager due to the club’s poor form during his tenure.

The Portuguese tactician’s next test is against Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea side, who are currently unbeaten in the league, sitting fifth in the standings.

During the summer transfer window, the Blues signed United outcast Alejandro Garnacho for a fee of £40million. The Argentinian winger is due for a reunion this weekend.

United’s ‘desire to win’ vs Chelsea

Ahead of this weekend’s clash, the Chelsea manager stated in his press conference that Old Trafford is always a tough place to go to, even despite United’s recent form.

The Italian said, via UtdDistrict, “I think it’s always difficult to play United away at their stadium. Now is not the right moment; next year or last year, it is always difficult.

“Some of the games they have played this season is not the real result, even the City game. It will be a tough game, no doubt.”

“They have the desire to win this game, after when you struggle, there is a desire to win the next game,” he said. “Against Chelsea, at home, in front of their fans – they are all reasons why this game is important.”

Garnacho’s potential start

Maresca was also asked on his new signing Garnacho, to which he said, “In the last two games, he was very good when he came on. So we are happy with the way he has adapted to our style and what we want from the winger. I think he is ready to start.”

This answer caused for reporters to ask Amorim about his thoughts surrounding a potential start for his former winger, to which he made it very clear that he isn’t concerned for players that are not his.

The United boss said, via UtdDistrict on X, “Garnacho is not our player, I’m focused on our players. I’m really happy with Mason [Mount] and [Matheus] Cunha returning. The rest, talk to the Chelsea manager.”

With so much at stake for Amorim, as well as Garnacho having a point to prove against his former side, this fixture is set up to be quite the spectacle.
