Ruben Amorim has received an update on Manchester United fullback Luke Shaw, who has been struggling with injury this season.

Luke Shaw suffered an injury setback last month at Manchester United, despite Ruben Amorim’s cautious approach to his reintegration to the team.

In a statement on social media, the defender expressed that he was “absolutely devastated,” describing this as the “toughest period” of his career.

Some United fans struggle to sympathise with Shaw after his decision to make himself available for England at Euro 2024.

He played a part in the final few games for England, who reached the final, before suffering an injury during pre-season at Carrington. He returned in November but experienced another issue shortly afterwards.

Amorim receives Shaw injury update

According to information from UtdMenace, the 29-year-old is looking good in his rehab and is on track to return to the squad towards the end of January.

United face FCSB in the Europa League on 30 January and then Crystal Palace on 2 February and their next Premier League game is not until the 16 February. A potential FA Cup fourth-round clash would be in between.

It is likely that Shaw is reintroduced during this period of fixtures, with Amorim likely to be careful once again about the use of the defender to minimise the risk of injury reoccurrence.

Shaw made three appearances this season under the Portuguese boss, all coming off the bench, as the left centre-back of the back three.

Amorim is backing Shaw despite fan frustration

Despite the frustration which many fans have for Shaw, the United boss is willing to back him until the end as long as he continues working hard.

Amorim has said that it is ‘really hard’ for players to recover from injuries in the midst of a busy season and that he ‘believes a lot in him’.

“What I said to him, as a coach is, that since I am here, I saw him in the medical department,” Amorim told Amazon Prime Video. “I saw him in the gym. I saw him losing weight. I saw him training.

“So he did everything right. Sometimes, when you have one or two injuries, it’s really hard to recover.

“If he continues with this behaviour, doing everything he can, I will be here. All the staff will be here, as long as it takes.

“We believe a lot in him, he’s so important for our team. For the future, I see in this team, Luke is a very important player for us.”
