Ruben Amorim receives green light from Manchester United duo to perform tactical switch after Bryan Mbeumo arrival

Ruben Amorim has received the green light from two Manchester United players to perform a tactical switch once Bryan Mbeumo arrives at the club.

Bryan Mbeumo has emerged as Manchester United’s top target following the earlier signing of Matheus Cunha at the beginning of the transfer window.

United registered their interest in the Brentford forward, and Mbeumo quickly signalled to other interested clubs, including Newcastle and Tottenham, that Old Trafford was his preferred destination.

An initial bid of £55 million from the Reds was turned down by Brentford, and it took United several weeks to return with a new offer.

Multiple reports now indicate that Ruben Amorim’s side have submitted a second bid worth over £60 million, with growing confidence that a deal will soon be agreed.

Amad prepared for new position after Mbeumo arrival

With the arrivals of Cunha and Mbeumo this summer, Amorim is likely going to have to make a few adjustments to the team. Both of them are expected to come in and play in those advanced roles.

Amad is one player who will be impacted, with the Ivorian likely to be asked to play more consistently at wingback, but that will not be an issue for the 22-year-old.

“Wherever the manager puts me, I’m ready to fight for the team,” said Amad during an interview with club media last season.

“I have no problem to play just as the right winger or No. 10, I can play everywhere. Like I said to the manager, if you need me as a keeper, I’m ready to do my best!”

There will be no issues for Amad if he has to play at wingback more often, especially considering he is still able to provide an attacking threat from the flank.

Fernandes likes to play in deeper role

Meanwhile, club captain Bruno Fernandes will also likely have to make a more permanent adjustment to playing in deeper midfield. He shined there during periods of last season.

This is something that Fernandes predicted would come as his career progressed. Speaking in March 2024, the Portuguese midfielder explained that he is open to moving deeper, like he has done recently under Amorim.

“In terms of passing, game organisation, defence, tactics, I have a little thought in my head that I’m going to end my career further back, because everyone who started there and went to No.10 ended up retreating on the field at the end,” he said.

“It’s a position I like, playing deeper, facing the game more. With the ball, it makes my game a lot easier because I have a broader view of the game and it is ideal for what we’ve talked about with the last pass, which can sometimes come from deeper on the pitch.”

With both Amad and Fernandes clearly open to adjusting to these new positions consistently, it gives Amorim the green light to test it out for the new season following on from the signings of Cunha and Mbeumo.
