“We try…” Rúben Amorim breaks silence on Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho decision vs Man City
Rúben Amorim has opened up on why Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford have been dropped vs Manchester City.
Rúben Amorim is set to lead Manchester United into a crucial Premier League clash against Manchester City, a key test for the new head coach in his early days at the helm.
United approach the game on the back of a 2-1 comeback win over FC Viktoria Plzeň in the Europa League, with substitute Rasmus Højlund delivering a decisive brace. With the festive domestic schedule in full swing, the spotlight now shifts to this eagerly awaited encounter.

Manchester City are in the midst of a rough patch, with just one win in their last ten matches across all competitions. Earlier this season, Pep Guardiola’s side suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Amorim’s Sporting, a result that highlighted cracks in their dominance.
With City’s hopes of a fifth straight Premier League title fading, United have the chance to exploit their rivals’ struggles and climb the league table from 13th place when the two teams meet at the Etihad Stadium.
Why Rashford and Garnacho are dropped
Speaking to Sky Sports, United boss Rúben Amorim explained why Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are not in the squad to face Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
“We try to evaluate everything training performance, game performances, engagement with teammates, push their teammates up. Everything is on the line when we analyse and try to choose the players. It is my selection. Simple.
“I don’t want to send a message it is simply an evaluation and they know it. The players are really, really smart. Everybody understands my decision and I have to choose. It is simple selection.
“Of course the context is difficult because we have to win games and we have a difficult situation now. I pay attention to everything, the way you eat, the way you put your clothes to go to a game. Everything. I make my evaluation and then I decide.
“There is a communication after the last training. They are alright. They had training this morning and I was there. They trained really well.”
