Rúben Amorim ‘questioning’ two Man Utd stars after “intelligent” Everton moment, Jamie Carragher agrees

Rúben Amorim will be questioning two Manchester United stars following Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s brilliant strike for Everton on Monday evening.

Manchester United’s six-match unbeaten run in the Premier League came to an end as Everton earned a hard-fought 1–0 win at Old Trafford on Monday night.

United saw plenty of the ball early on, but Everton carried the greater threat, and the visitors went down to ten men inside the opening quarter of an hour when Idrissa Gana Gueye struck teammate Michael Keane.

Despite the numerical advantage, Rúben Amorim’s players struggled to find rhythm. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall punished them with a superb finish that put David Moyes’ side ahead, and United headed into half-time unable to shift the momentum.

After the break, Mason Mount, Kobbie Mainoo, and Diogo Dalot were introduced, yet Everton continued to defend with discipline. In the final stages, Bryan Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes, and the rest of United’s attacking options tried to break through, and Joshua Zirkzee forced Jordan Pickford into an excellent save.

As stoppage time arrived, Everton’s control of the final minutes ensured they left with all three points.

Amorim will question De Ligt and Yoro for Everton’s goal

Regardless of what else occurred across the fixture, Dewsbury-Hall’s finish was exquisite. Receiving the ball on the turn, he took a touch, looked up, and curled the ball beyond Senne Lammens to secure what would go on to be a brilliant three points for the Toffies.

However, despite the “intelligent” position the English midfielder took up ahead of the United defence, Portugal international manager Roberto Martínez explained that Amorim will question the lack of communication between Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt before the goal.

This is such an intelligent position. I’m sure that Ruben Amorim will be just questioning the lack of communication between [Yoro and De Ligt],” the 52-year-old explained.

“You’re looking at the centre-half, Yoro, with all the three centre-halves against one player. You would like somebody to step in, but from Cleveland’s point of view, to be able to turn, this is something that we don’t appreciate enough in football.

“And parts of coaching, look at the position, it’s totally back to play. He turns around, he’s aware, perfect scanning, he knows where his teammate is, he knows where the opposition is, and that skill of being able to turn in one move, technically, is very, very gifted.”

Carragher feels Yoro must take more chances

Carrying on from Martínez’s point, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher agreed, explaining that he feels Yoro must trust the production of his fellow defenders and be more aggressive in closing the opposition midfielder down.

“I don’t think Leny Yoro covers himself in glory,” Carragher commented. “When we’re talking about some scanning there, Roberto, when you play in a back three, I think it gives you a license to go and step in.

“Don’t forget, Everton are only playing with one striker. Now, the ball bypasses the two central midfield players. We’ve said that a lot, probably over the season at times, Casemiro and Bruno.

“Bruno’s really attacking. Casemiro, maybe at times, lacks a little bit of pace. He has to jump. He has to go. He has to go in there.”

With Maguire out with a hamstring injury, the 20-year-old will likely remain in the starting lineup and will be hoping for a rectifying performance when the club travels to face Crystal Palace next week.
