Ruben Amorim has provided a worrying update on Bruno Fernandes after his injury during Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.
Manchester United suffered a 2–1 defeat to Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, with Morgan Rogers scoring twice for the home side.
Despite controlling large periods of the match, United were unable to turn their dominance into goals, while Rogers delivered two decisive moments of quality to secure the win.
Ruben Amorim’s side can draw encouragement from their overall performance, but their ongoing struggle to convert chances when on top continues to cost them.
Bruno Fernandes was also forced off with an injury at half-time and that is something that no United fan wants to see. It looked like the captain pulled his hamstring.
Amorim provides worrying Fernandes injury update
Fernandes felt his hamstring towards the end of the first half but played on until the half-time whistle and some thought that he would somehow come out in the second half.
That wouldn’t have been surprising. Fernandes seems like a player who cannot get injured but he was replaced by Lisandro Martínez at the break and came out to watch the game from the bench.
Amorim has claimed that the injury problems at the moment are ‘really strange’ and added that Fernandes could be out for ‘a while’ with a ‘soft tissue’ injury.
“It is really strange,” he told Sky Sports. “During this year, especially at this time, we have so many problems, but we have to cope with that.
“I think Fletcher did his first game, so that is good news, Lacey the same, so we will try to find solutions and go for the next game.
“I think it’s soft tissue [Fernandes injury] so it’s going to be a while. We’ll see.”
United need to cope without Fernandes
After over five years at the club, we are about to see how United cope without Fernandes for a prolonged period. It is perhaps at the worst possible time.
Bryan Mbeumo and Amad are at AFCON and that hurts United’s attacking quality. Losing Fernandes only makes that even worse and players like Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha need to step up.
Like Amorim said as well, players like Lacey and Fletcher will be hoping for more minutes in the coming weeks as United try to find points in a difficult period.
