Ruben Amorim provides Leny Yoro injury update after hidden Manchester United training session moment spotted

Ruben Amorim has provided a fresh injury update on Leny Yoro after a hidden moment during Manchester United’s latest training session was spotted.

Manchester United fell to a 2-0 defeat against West Ham on Sunday, but it was an injury to Leny Yoro which was the worst part of the game.

With the Europa League final just over a week away at the time, Ruben Amorim would have been eager to avoid injuries. There was a brief scare in the first half when Rasmus Højlund clutched his shoulder, but he played on without issue.

More concerning was an incident early in the second half when Yoro went down off the ball and had to be replaced by Harry Maguire. The 19-year-old centre-back limped off visibly upset, sparking serious concern among fans, as he’s been a standout performer in recent months.

After the game, Amorim suggested that the injury does not look too serious but there remains some doubt over the defender’s ability to start the game against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao next week.

Yoro did not have to wear a protective boot after the weekend’s game, and fans were waiting for the open training session on Wednesday afternoon to see if he might already be back with the squad.

Despite there being an extremely large group, the 19-year-old was not among those in team training but journalists did notice Yoro when he was heading towards the gym at Carrington – a potential positive sign for the player.

“Just spotted Leny Yoro heading into the gym at Carrington to do his own fitness work away from the main group. Hopefully a positive sign,” MailSport reporter Nathan Salt wrote on X.

Afterwards, Amorim took to the press conference room at the training ground to speak with journalists as part of the Europa League final open day.

He provided an update on Yoro’s situation, explaining that he is still not sure whether the Frenchman or his fellow centre-back Matthijs de Ligt will be available for the final next week.

“I don’t know if they are going to be available. We are going to try and push because it is the final matches and there is a final.

“All the players want to play in that really bad. I don’t think they will go to Chelsea, but we will have a possibility to have some of them in the final.”

Amorim’s potential Yoro replacements if not deemed fit

Should the Frenchman not be available to start the final, it feels most likely that Luke Shaw comes into the backline in the left-sided role.

Maguire is expected to start in the centre while Noussair Mazraoui is most likely to play from the right side. Victor Lindelöf will also be fighting for a spot, but Shaw seems like the best option from those currently fit and available.

Ayden Heaven – a player who would be pushing for a starting spot – is still unavailable and seems unlikely to be fit in time for the Bilbao-based clash.

But it seems very clear that United would be in a much more comfortable position if Yoro is fit to start that game. He has been one of the best-performing players and can deal with the speed of the Spurs attack better than anyone else in United’s backline.
