Ruben Amorim promotes ‘really exciting’ Manchester United starlet after impressing him during U21s clash
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was present during the club’s Under-21s recent victory over Southampton at the training ground.
Ruben Amorim has had a difficult start to life at Manchester United since arriving in November last year, with four wins in his opening 12 fixtures.
There have been positives and negatives from that time, with the major takeaway being that the Portuguese boss will need time to properly implement his system.
The 39-year-old was well-known for trusting the youth during his spell at Sporting Lisbon, something that excited many United supporters when he joined.
So far, Amorim has been focused on the first-team squad and making sure that they adapt as quickly as possible to his ideas, which has left little time to integrate Academy talent.
16-year-old centre-back Godwill Kukonki was involved on the bench against Arsenal and Newcastle United due to injury issues.
But Amorim appears to be looking at several talents now after images of first-team training this week was released.
Amorim includes Academy stars in United training
Ahead of their FA Cup clash against Arsenal on the weekend, United uploaded pictures of Amorim’s squad preparing for the game.
Alongside the first-team regulars, Jack Moorhouse was among several Academy players to be involved in the session.
Moorhouse, 19, has impressed in the Under-21s this season and has been nominated for the December PL2 Player of the Month. Kukonki, Tyler Fredrickson and Elyh Harrison were also spotted at Carrington with the squad.
Amorim could look to involve some of these young players in the matchday squad at the Emirates on the weekend, with potential rotation expected as the boss focuses on improving the situation in the Premier League.
Moorhouse impressed Amorim during U21s fixture
Moorhouse was the standout player for the Under-21s last month when Amorim was on the sidelines to watch their clash against Southampton at Carrington.
The young Reds delivered an impressive performance, securing a dominant 5-1 victory over the Saints and Moorhouse grabbed two goals in the game.
Reports after the match suggested that Amorim was impressed by the performance of Moorhouse, who scored a stunning goal late on after a mazy run through the middle.
U21s assistant coach Dave Hughes described the performance of the midfielder as ‘really, really exciting’.
With limited options in the engine room, and rumours that Casemiro could leave in January, Moorhouse will be hoping to continue impressing Amorim and push towards first-team football.
