Rúben Amorim has come out with praise for three of Manchester United’s players following their 1-0 loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United suffered their 15th Premier League defeat of the season as Rúben Amorim’s team lost 1-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in a lacklustre match at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The game began with Wolves looking to make an impact away from home, but the opening 25 minutes were uneventful, with neither side managing a shot on target.
As United started to grow into the match, it became more engaging, but neither team could break the deadlock before the break, with Kobbie Mainoo’s long-range effort narrowly missing the target.
The first big chance in the second half fell to Rasmus Højlund, who broke through on goal but was hesitant, and his shot was blocked. Wolves eventually made the breakthrough 15 minutes from time with a brilliant free-kick from Pablo Sarabia that beat André Onana.
United pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but despite their efforts, they were unable to find a way through, and Amorim’s side suffered another disappointing loss at Old Trafford.
Amorim praises United trio vs Wolves
While the loss is undoubtedly another low point in what has been a season to forget at Old Trafford, the general consensus is that the Wolves fixture showed a few positive performances from individuals.
Harry Amass, Alejandro Garnacho, and debutant Tyler Fredricson have all received particular praise for their displays, with the latter showing himself to be a centre-back with “outstanding” potential.
Speaking to MUTV, Amorim was asked for his thoughts on the trio, who all played down United’s left-hand side on Sunday afternoon.
“They were really good,” Amorim told the club’s media channel. “They deserved a better memory from this game, because we were better, but we need to score goals. So, they played really, really well, and they deserve better.”
Eriksen agrees with Amorim about Amass and Fredricson
Amorim was not the only person to single out praise for Amass and Fredricson. Also speaking with MUTV, United midfielder Christian Eriksen explained he feels the duo should be “proud” of their performances, and that they deserved better than what the rest of the side gave them.
“I’m happy for both of them,” Eriksen said. “Obviously, Harry has played a few games, but Tyler was making his debut today. He’s trained with us a few times and performed today. He’s a bright kid. They’re both really working hard and earning their chance in the team.
“And I think they can both be very proud of what they’ve achieved today. I think they both looked very comfortable, and playing with them was good fun.
“I hope they enjoyed it and keep the memory, apart from the loss. But for their own development, they should be very proud.”
United have a week’s rest before they face their next opponents, travelling to the south coast to face a high-flying Bournemouth side.
