One former Manchester United star has claimed new signing Matheus Cunha is perfect for Ruben Amorim in a recent interview, and hailed the Brazilian as a ‘shining light’.
Ahead of this summer’s transfer window, Manchester United set their sights on Premier League maverick Matheus Cunha as their top target.
Subsequently, Ruben Amorim’s side signed the Brazilian by activating his £62.5million release clause, as they look to put last season’s disappointments behind them.
Although the Red Devils got off to a flying start in the transfer window, transfers have since dried up with there being no sales and/or signings since the arrival of Cunha.
Despite a lack of activity since signing the 26-year-old attacker, United fans should not forget the talent that they have possessed for their number ten role.
Cunha arrived at Carrington alongside Diego Leon for his first day at United, with pre-season getting underway ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Cunha the perfect fit for Amorim’s system
When speaking with AceOdds, former United star Lee Sharpe explained why he is excited about the arrival of Cunha and shared his hopes for what the magician can bring to Old Trafford.
“I think it’s pretty much that everyone’s seen over the last couple of seasons. He’s stood out as a shining light by creating chances and scoring goals,” Sharpe said.
“He’s been aggressive, probably a bit over-aggressive and lost his cool at times, but that’s alright, as long as he learns from it and isn’t upsetting teammates.
“His eye for a pass and calmness under pressure is something to admire. He’s good in tight areas, which can be difficult for wide players. He fits the number 10 role, and he’s physical enough to get up and down the pitch and help defensively.”
Can Cunha propel United up the table?
Having scored 17 and assisted six in the league last season, Cunha was a primary reason as to why Wolves managed to have such a successful second half to the season.
Amorim will be hopeful that his new forward can provide his side with a similar kind of trajectory that helped to boost Wolves from a relegation battle to a mid-table scrap.

Given United’s abysmal goal record last campaign, scoring 44 in 38 league games, this sort of signing could help to turn the screw in taking United from 15th to the top end of the table.
Despite a recent plateau, United fans can look forward to seeing their Brazilian star in action next season and will be hopeful that he can be provided with the right supporting cast in the coming months.
