Ruben Amorim in ‘pole position’ for sensational managerial return after Manchester United sacking

Former Manchester United head coach Rúben Amorim is already in high demand just weeks after his shock departure from Old Trafford.

Ex-Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is back in the headlines as links begin to emerge after his career with the Reds came to a close just a few weeks ago.

Amorim left Manchester less than two months ago after a relatively harsh press conference following United’s 1-1 draw against Premier League rivals Leeds United. While the team has benefited massively from Amorim’s exit, it seems that it is equally happy to no longer be the man in the dugout.

The Portuguese man’s time at United has now been made into a much clearer picture with his former coaching staff helping to paint the picture. Amorim’s previous assistant, Adelio Canido, has shared that not all of the coaching staff’s ideas were listened to and considered during their time at United.

Although this doesn’t come as a total shock to many followers of the club, it helps cement the fact that Amorim’s position at the club may have never been the right fit, with Amorim’s managerial skills not necessarily the main issue.

This is supported by the interest clubs have had regarding the 41-year-old joining a new club next season. It looks likely Amorim will not be without a job for long.

Benfica express interest in Amorim

It is reported that Amorim has attracted interest from Brazil, with Vasco de Gama seemingly monitoring his current situation. While this interest remains informal, Amorim is attracting global attention.

It is starting to look likely that Amorim will be returning to his home country as the coach is linked wth a potential move to Benfica.

Portuguese site ZeroZero have reported that Amorim is the standout candidate, depending on which route the club decides to take.

Journalist Luis Rocha Rodrigues shared that, “If Benfica go to what I consider plan B… Benfica have to try Ruben Amorim.

“Looking at the market, looking at logical and valid solutions, someone who knows how to win in Portugal, someone who understands what it means to be at a big club… I think Ruben Amorim is in pole position.”

Where does this leave Amorim?

This will certainly be a confidence booster for Amorim. Whilst the former Benfica midfielder left United on bad terms, with fans, players and pundits alike all doubting his managerial ability, the fact that several clubs have expressed an interest in him shows he’s doing something right.

Amorim’s time in charge at Sporting helped build a renowned name for himself in European football, and people have obviously not forgotten it.

This then poses the question of whether Amorim is a manager suited to Portuguese football better, having played in Primera Liga himself, understanding the landscape to a Tee.

English football is at an almost incomparable standard to any other country, and that pressure may have got too much for Amorim; a return to what he knows may be the best for his career right now.

This leaves Manchester United anxiously awaiting what’s next. While no longer tied to the club, if Amorim is to go and perform incredibly elsewhere, his arguments regarding the ownership of the Manchester team may just have to be revisited.
