Rúben Amorim has taken a dig at Pep Guardiola following Manchester United’s brilliant 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United triumphed 2-1 against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, thanks to a stunning late performance from Amad Diallo that secured all three points for Rúben Amorim‘s side in a thrilling Premier League encounter.

The match began with both teams eager to impose themselves, but United suffered an early blow as Mason Mount was forced off with an injury inside the first 15 minutes.

City capitalized on the disrupted start, with Joško Gvardiol heading home the opener after a deflected Kevin de Bruyne cross from a short corner landed perfectly for him.

In the second half, United looked to take control, dominating possession but struggling to break down City’s disciplined defence. Bruno Fernandes came agonisingly close to equalizing with just 10 minutes remaining, but his effort went begging.

The turning point arrived through a moment of magic from Amad Diallo. The young winger dazzled his way into the box, winning a penalty that Fernandes confidently converted to level the score with just five minutes left on the clock. But United weren’t done.

Lisandro Martínez delivered a breathtaking long pass from defence to release Amad once again. The youngster showed incredible composure to round Ederson and finish brilliantly, completing a dramatic comeback and earning United a vital victory in the final moments.

Amorim’s sly dig

Speaking to the BBC after the game, Amorim took a sly dig at City boss Pep Guardiola, explaining that he feels his side deserved the win despite losing for the majority of the tie.

“It was incredible,” Amorim said. “I think we deserved it. It was a very tough match but we believe until the end. We managed to score, we needed that win, it was important for us and for our fans.

“We were in the game for 90 minutes and that is very good. We talk about the Arsenal game, we played well in the first half but they were not believing that we could win. Today was so much more different.

“I also believe. Then we have Fergie time and we put the things together and something magic happened. It was a good day for us.

“They [the fans] need it. Just like us, but you can see the way they celebrate is special. But we need to continue. Our club needs to win these kinds of matches, I understand the happiness of our fans but we need to continue.

“With a victory for City, the performance was the same. We need to improve a lot of things but today the guys deserved the win. They were in it until the last minute and that is important for us.”
