One Manchester United star has justified two transfer decisions Rúben Amorim has made of late following his “brilliant” performance against Everton.

Manchester United mounted a second-half comeback to secure a 2-2 draw against Everton, with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte earning Rúben Amorim’s side a hard-fought point at Goodison Park.

Everton flew out of the blocks, pressing United relentlessly and finding the breakthrough after 20 minutes when Beto capitalised on poor defending to score his fifth goal in four games.

Ten minutes later, Abdoulaye Doucouré doubled the lead, overpowering Harry Maguire to slot home a rebound after André Onana’s initial save, leaving United in trouble at the break.

United looked more composed in the second half but still struggled to match Everton’s intensity. However, with 20 minutes left, Bruno Fernandes produced a moment of brilliance, curling a stunning free kick into the top corner to give United hope.

That hope turned into an equaliser moments later, as Manuel Ugarte rifled home a superb strike to complete the comeback.

Late drama followed when Matthijs de Ligt brought down Ashley Young in the box, seemingly gifting Everton a last-minute penalty. But after a VAR review, the decision was overturned, ensuring United escaped with a battling point.

Dorgu was “brilliant” against Everton

Although Fernandes will take most of the plaudits for his free-kick goal and general fantastic performance, Patrick Dorgu was very much an unsung hero against Everton.

Making just his third appearance for the club after signing toward the end of January, Dorgu was “brilliant” at left wing-back as he looked to defend as well as create, being United’s only bright spark in the first half.

He had 89 touches during the fixture and drew five fouls, more than anyone else on the pitch, including one for the free-kick Fernandes scored. He completed 44 passes and attempted four crosses, also making six clearances and eight recoveries.

Dorgu also won nine of his 15 attempted duels, with eight of these coming as successful ground duels. For a 20-year-old still adjusting to Premier League life, he was fantastic.

Dorgu justifying two Amorim transfer decisions

Shortly after Dorgu joined the club, United confirmed that left-back Tyrell Malacia had departed to Dutch team PSV Eindhoven for the remainder of the season, with Amorim explaining he feels Malacia would suit a team who played with full-backs instead of wing-backs.

Further, it was also confirmed that there is an option for PSV to sign Malacia for £8.3 million at the end of the season once his loan deal expires.

Aside from the Netherlands full-back, there have also been reports that there is a “serious possibility” that Luke Shaw may depart in the summer, with the England international not part of Amorim’s long-term plans.

Some have questioned why United would let Malacia leave in January and sell Shaw considering that Dorgu is the only fit and natural left-sided player at the club, but after his performance against Everton, it’s clear that he is the long-term future of that position.

Beyond this, there are also reports that United will look to sign another new left wing-back this summer amid the need for more stability and options on that side.
