Rúben Amorim has opened up on a Manchester United duo he feels must be playing every game after their recent positive form.
Manchester United have not had an easy start to the Premier League season, having faced Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool in the first eight games, along with tough away tests against Brentford and Fulham.
With only one fixture a week, Rúben Amorim has had plenty of time on the training pitch with his team, which has helped some of the new signings better understand how to play with their teammates.
While previous transfer windows have seen United sign players who do not live up to expectations, many fans have quickly taken to the new front line of Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo, who have already shown some of their talent on the pitch.
There is also much to be said about the new goalkeeper signing, Senne Lammens. The relatively unknown 23-year-old Belgian has had a fantastic start to life at the club across his opening two games of the season.
Amorim heaps praise on Amad and Mbeumo partnership
One very positive aspect about only having one fixture a week is that, as well as Amorim having time to train his team, the players can form better relationships both on and off the training pitch.
One such partnership that has garnered a lot of praise in the last month or so is that of Mbeumo and Amad. Mbeumo has been acting as United’s right-sided forward, while Amad has been putting in fantastic shifts at wing-back.
Asked how important the duo are becoming for United and the importance of developing partnerships on the field, AMori admitted that it’s a partnership he feels he should utilise in every game.
“It’s important because they need time to know each other, sometimes the rotation that they make on the positions is also important to create more problems to the opponents,” AMorim told club media.
“They are really good on one against one; they are really fast, so it’s something that we need to use in every game.”
Amad’s unique profile allows for a free-flowing United
There has been a lot of criticism surrounding Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 formation since he was appointed in November 2024, with much of the focus being on his midfield and wing-back selections.
With the wing-backs, it was often cited that Amorim was too defensive-minded, frequently playing full-backs such as Diogo Dalot there. However, the introduction of Amad has changed the expectations.
Amad was injured for much of the second half of the season, leaving the wing-back areas without an attacking threat, but since his return and Mbeumo’s signing, the pair have been a fantastic threat.
For years, United have been left-sided heavy, with their right flank a somewhat dead zone for creativity and goals.
But with Amad’s unique profile as a skilful winger and player with a fantastic work-rate and ethic, he can provide aggressive defensive manoeuvres while also maintaining a very high-quality, sustainable attacking outlet.
