Ruben Amorim must sign ‘one to watch’ Matheus Cunha after major Manchester United transfer update

Ruben Amorim and Manchester United have a clear transfer decision this month after the latest developments in the January window.

Manchester United are trying to improve the situation at Old Trafford as they remain in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Ruben Amorim’s squad does not suit the way he wants to play, particularly in two areas of the pitch – at wingback and the split no.10s.

United’s wingbacks are two of the most important players in the team but Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui simply cannot do the job that is needed in the position.

That is why the club are trying to sign 20-year-old Patrick Dorgu, who can play on either flank as a wingback. Talks are ongoing over a potential deal for around £30 million.

However, the Reds are also somewhat limited in the final third due to the role of the two players in behind the striker. They are no longer wingers, but instead have to play more inside the pitch.

This doesn’t suit the likes of Alejandro Garnacho, Antony or Marcus Rashford – all of whom are available to leave this month. But that means United must sign someone for that position too.

Cunha’s future at Wolves is ‘one to watch’

Latest reports from The Athletic suggests that is what the club are planning, with Laurie Whitwell detailing that United are currently working on a separate deal alongside Dorgu.

This also follows on Fabrizio Romano’s claims that Matheus Cunha’s future at Wolves this month is “one to watch” after Vitor Pereira criticised him after their last game.

The Italian journalist has explained that a new deal at the Molineux has not yet been signed and there are clubs circling the Brazilian forward.

United have shown prior interest in Cunha and he could be the perfect player to sign before the January deadline comes.

United must attempt Cunha transfer

Cunha has scored 10 goals and provided four assists so far in the Premier League this season despite playing in a very poor Wolves side.

He was the clear standout when United lost 2-0 to them last month, scoring the opener and assisting the second goal.

United have an inexperienced forward line and they can’t only bring in players with potential – they need some ready-made stars who can contribute right now, and that’s exactly what Cunha brings.

The 25 year old would be able to immediately improve United’s frontline and his playstyle also suits playing in the slightly more inside role that Amorim wants.

With it appearing likely that United could sell Garnacho for around £60 million, there is no excuse that the club cannot attempt to pry Cunha away from Wolves this month.
