Rúben Amorim ‘no longer speaks’ to one Manchester United star with relationship now ‘completely broken’
According to a new report, Rúben Amorim’s relationship with Marcus Rashford has completely deteriorated, with the pair no longer on speaking terms at Manchester United.
Manchester United are looking to send Marcus Rashford out on loan in January after the 27-year-old revealed his desire to seek a new challenge.
Once the centrepiece of United’s attack, Rashford delivered a career-best 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23. However, his influence has waned, and under Rúben Amorim, he has found himself out of favour. With Amad and Bruno Fernandes firmly established in the starting lineup, Rashford has not featured in United’s last six matches.
Having spent nearly 20 years at the club, Rashford’s rise to prominence began with an unforgettable debut at 18, when he scored twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League and followed it up with another brace against Arsenal in the Premier League.
Reports suggest United are willing to loan Rashford out in January, with a permanent transfer likely in the summer. His departure now feels inevitable, marking the end of an era at Old Trafford as he prepares for the next phase of his career.
Rashford and Amorim’s relationship now broken
Two and a half months ago, it was Rashford who scored Amorim’s first goal at the club’s helm, netting inside two minutes against Ipswich Town after a fantastic run from Amad.
However, the following weeks saw the player completely dropped from United’s matchday squads, with Rashford not having featured for United since mid-December.
According to The Guardian, Rashford and Amorim are now no longer on speaking terms, with their relationship having completely broken down.
It is stated that the only time Amorim now speaks to Rashford is when he addresses the squad more generally, which will mostly happen as part of team meetings and training ground exercisecs.
Despite Rashford’s matchday squad exile, he is still in training, although he has missed multiple sessions over the last month due to bouts of illness.
What Amorim said about Rashford
This news comes following a scathing assessment from Amorim where he hinted that Rashford is not being included in matchday squads due to a lack of application in training.
When asked for a specific reason why Rashford is continually not selected, Amorim said: “The reason is the training, the way I see what a footballer should do in training, in life, and it’s every day, every detail. So if things don’t change, I will not change.”
When asked if the situation would change if he does not leave in January, the 40-year-old replied: “It’s the same situation for every player.
“If you do the maximum, if you do the right things, we can use every player. And you can see it today on the bench, we miss a little bit of pace to go, to change the game, to move some pieces, but I prefer it like that.
“I will put [Jorge] Vital [goalkeeping coach] before I put a player who doesn’t give the maximum every day, so I will not change in that part.”
