Rúben Amorim has been able to train with his squad for the first consistent period since he joined the club ahead of their clash against Liverpool.

Rúben Amorim has spent a significant portion of his time as Manchester United head coach so far having to prepare for games without being able to train his squad.

The 39-year-old head coach revealed last week that in the opening six weeks as Old Trafford boss, after he replaced Erik ten Hag, he has only been able to conduct a full training session with his squad four times.

Amorim has been busy trying to implement his 3-4-3 formation at the club, but despite early successes, the players have struggled to adapt, with the team losing their last four games in a row across all competitions.

However, ahead of their Premier League trip to Liverpool to face Arne Slot’s men at Anfield, Amorim has had two full days of training and is expected to have further time before United face Arsenal next weekend.

What United have worked on in training

Speaking to the press on Friday afternoon ahead of the Liverpool game, Amorim explained that he feels the few days he’s had with his team will give his side a welcome boost ahead of the tough game.

“We had more time to train, two days in a row, to train with the team,” he told reporters. I think that can help us, given the environment.

“Of course, it’s a difficult moment because we are losing too many matches. We are going to face the best team this year but, like I said, we are training. We feel more the team, we prepare more the team and we want to improve the performance compared to the last game.”

Further, Amorim was asked what he has worked on with his players, to which he said he has been working on the small details that they have been missing, such as transitions, dealing with crosses, and tying this into defending set pieces.

“Everything. The small things, the transitions, I think you can see the lack of possession in the last game in the first half, the control of the game,” he said.

“Everybody was so anxious, so nervous. The crosses are really important, set-pieces. It’s hard to say one thing.

“We work on a lot of things, but I think the possession, the way we control the tempo of the game, the understanding of where you should play was the main focus this week.”
