“I don’t think…” Rúben Amorim predicted to ignore Manchester United fans with controversial decision vs Tottenham
Jamie Carragher has predicted that Rúben Amorim will ignore the wishes of Manchester United fans as he prepares his side to face Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a crucial trip to North London to face Tottenham Hotspur.
The two sides have already played out a thrilling contest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, with Spurs edging a dramatic 4-3 battle to knock Rúben Amorim’s men out of the Carabao Cup. Now, with valuable league points at stake, both teams will be eager to claim a victory and regain momentum.
It has been a frustrating season for both clubs, who sit in 13th and 14th place, with United holding a slender two-point advantage over their hosts. With expectations far greater than their current standings suggest, the pressure is on to turn their campaigns around.
For Amorim, Sunday presents another opportunity to assert his influence and build consistency with his squad. Meanwhile, Postecoglou finds himself under mounting scrutiny, with growing discontent among Spurs supporters. With both teams desperate for a statement result, this North London clash promises to be a tense and fiercely fought battle.
Amorim predicted to ignore United fans
Against Leicester City, Amorim handed Patrick Dorgu his debut but started the new signing on the right flank, much to the bemusement of fans.
Since then, many have been calling for the player to play on the left hand side, but former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher feels Amorim will instead choose to play two full-backs as the wing-backs against Tottenham, which would leave little space for Dorgu to play.
“This is like two pub teams, isn’t it? What is this? The Red Lion vs. The Dog and Duck? Man United does okay away from home in big stadiums, but Tottenham beat them a few weeks ago,” Carragher said when asked for his prediction.
“I think this will be 1-1 because I think Man United will go there with their back five, sit back, and try to make it difficult. I’m not sure Tottenham has enough to score multiple goals, and I don’t think Man United has the quality to take all three points.”
Amorim has to take big risks
This week has seen United have a full few days of training, but news has since broken that Kobbie Mainoo and Amad have succumbed to significant injuries, while Toby Collyer and Manuel Ugarte have not travelled to face Tottenham.
Five Academy players have travelled with Sekou Kone, Chido Obi, Elyh Harrison, Jack Moorhouse, and Harry Amass having all departing for London, which will delight fans following the torrid injury news.
Amorim may have to take big risks against Tottenham with his attacking line severely depleted for the trip to London.
Just like he may have to start or play Academy players to get the job done, he may also have to forgo the safer bet of playing full-backs and allow Dorgu the chance to impress from the left wing-back position on Sunday afternoon.
