Rúben Amorim has broken an unwanted record at Manchester United as one star is slammed for a “shambolic” Premier League moment during a loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Manchester United suffered their third consecutive loss, falling 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Boxing Day Premier League clash.

Despite early opportunities through creativity from Noussair Mazraoui and Amad Diallo, Wolves controlled the first half.

The score remained 0-0 at half-time, but the match shifted dramatically early in the second half when Bruno Fernandes received a second yellow card and was sent off.

Shortly after, Matheus Cunha scored directly from a corner kick, giving Wolves the lead. Despite substitutions and efforts to equalize, United couldn’t break through Wolves’ defence.

VAR dismissed a late penalty appeal for a foul on Harry Maguire, and Hwang Hee-chan sealed Wolves’ 2-0 victory with a goal in extra time.

Amorim breaks unwanted United record vs Wolves

United’s loss against Wolves means they have now lost four of their opening seven games in the Premier League under Amorim, which breaks a record.

This is the fewest number of games in which a United manager has recorded a fourth defeat during their opening season of a campaign.

The previous record was set by Erik ten Hag, who lost four of his opening 13 Premier League games.

Beyond this, United have failed to score in seven of their 18 league games. Only Southampton and Everton (nine each) have been unable to score more often this season.

Cunha’s goal came directly from a corner, with the Brazilian star later confirming that he was trying to aim to score, rather than the finish being an accident.

Following Cunha’s goal, BBC Sport labelled André Onana as significantly contributing to a “shambolic” defensive display.

“Direct from a corner. What is Andre Onana doing?” the blog said.

“Boxed in by Matt Doherty and Santiago Bueno, Onana is too busy trying to shove the former out of the way as the ball sails over his head and goes in at the far post.

“Shambolic defending from a set piece again.”
