Rúben Amorim addresses Manchester United star’s “nightmare” performance vs Fulham
Rúben Amorim has addressed the “nightmare” performance one of his Manchester United players had during their 1-0 Premier League win over Fulham.
Manchester United edged Fulham 1-0 on Sunday evening, with Lisandro Martínez’s deflected strike securing the win.
United were subdued for much of the match, struggling to create chances and with Amad contained by Antonee Robinson.
The breakthrough finally came in the 78th minute when Martínez’s effort from distance looped over Bernd Leno. Amad’s late goal was ruled out for offside, but Rúben Amorim’s side held on for a valuable three points.
However, many have highlighted that it was a rather drab and ugly win on the night, with United’s men not doing too much in the way of producing an inspiring performance.
Amorim addresses Højlund’s poor performance vs Fulham
While a lot of coverage has been dedicated to Martínez after his winning goal and controversial challenge on Adama Traore, United fans have also explained their displeasure at striker Rasmus Højlund’s performance.
The Danish international had a “nightmare” fixture against Fulham, having just 20 touches in 58 minutes and failing to hold on the ball or register a single shot before he was replaced by Joshua Zirkzee.
However, when asked for his thoughts on Højlund’s recent form, Amorim explained that he feels the 21-year-old is suffering from not having much time on the training pitch.
“He wants it really hard and you can see it sometimes that without training, there is a disconnection,” the 40-year-old explained. “We can explain, but without training sometimes it goes away, when he should be near, sometimes he’s near when he should make a run.
“We don’t have time to make this connection, we don’t train these kinds of things, we just talk about these things. He has a lot to improve, like his team-mates. Sometimes you have a good game, other days you cannot have a good performance.
“The important thing is that I see every day that he wants it really bad. He talks about that [he] wants to train a little bit more in the end of trainings and that is the best thing to improve.
“But as a footballer, and he’s a young guy, he has to understand that sometimes you have a bad game, but you have to continue to go to the next.”
