Rúben Amorim to finally get what he wants with possible £90m Manchester United summer transfer boost
Rúben Amorim may finally have what he wants as Manchester United may be set for a £90 million transfer boost this summer.
Rúben Amorim’s first two months at Manchester United have been anything but smooth since taking over from Erik ten Hag.
Arriving in mid-November with United languishing in 13th place in the Premier League and struggling in the Europa League with just one win, the 40-year-old set out to rebuild a club in disarray.
There have been flashes of encouragement, including impressive away victories against Arsenal and Manchester City, but inconsistency continues to plague his tenure. Under Amorim, United have won nine of their first 19 matches, losing eight and drawing two.
Off the pitch, the challenges have been just as demanding. United have let three senior attackers depart on loan across the winter transfer window and are yet to find a replacement, while Lisandro Martínez may be out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
United may get a £90m summer transfer boost
One significant factor behind United’s lack of attacking reinforcements is that United have minimal funds to make big moves in the winter market, having already signed Patrick Dorgu from Lecce for an initial £25 million and bringing in centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.
However, this will likely change in the summer. United are set to receive £25 million from Chelsea once the summer window opens, as Jadon Sancho’s loan deal at Stamford Bridge includes a compulsory purchase clause once his one-year loan deal expires.
Further, United have inserted a £40 million buy option in Rashford’s loan move to Aston Villa, which the Birmingham club may well trigger if he performs well over the remainder of the campaign.
Finally, there have been recent reports that Marseille may consider selling Mason Greenwood to a big club this summer, and they feel they could get double the £27.5 million they paid United in the 2024 window.
United have a 50% sell-on clause in their contract with Marseille for Greenwood, meaning should Marseille be able to sell the forward for over £55 million, United would bank at least another £27.5 million.
Amorim finally getting what he wants
All this adds up to a possible £90 million transfer boost for Amorim, which is a figure he desperately needs.

“We are trying everything to improve the team without making the mistakes of the past and also trying to balance the urgency of the moment,” the 40-year-old said last week when asked about incomings this month.
“We know all of the aspects of our club in the moment but we are trying everything. This market is really hard on clubs to make some deals. I want to improve the team so badly. I know what the team needs. Sometimes it’s possible, sometimes it’s not. When the window closes we will see the players that we have.”
Amorim’s words show clearly that he wants funds available to sign new players to his dysfunctional and dire squad, but that has not been possible this month. However, with up to £90 million potentially coming into the club at the end of the campaign, he may finally get what he wants.
