Rúben Amorim’s brilliant one-word answer to a question about his football philosophy has sent a warning to his new Manchester United squad.

Rúben Amorim has been appointed as Manchester United‘s new head coach following the sacking of Erik ten Hag last month.

Despite an official announcement two weeks ago, Amorim was unable to start work at the club until this week. A contractual issue relating to his Sporting CP release clause prevented him from joining immediately.

In the interim, Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge of the squad, earning three wins and a draw and seeing United climb up the Premier League and Europa League tables. However, they remain 13th and 15th, respectively.

Amorim has a mammoth task ahead of him, but the 39-year-old has finally landed at his new home and is due to conduct his first training session at the beginning of next week.

Amorim’s one-word message

Amorim recently spoke with club media for the first time since he landed in Manchester, he was asked if he can sum his coaching philosophy that he will translate to his players in one word.

He explained that the most important part of his philosophy is surrounding his team and that all his players must buy into this to succeed.

“In one word: team,” he said. “The team is the most important thing for me.”

“If you work as a team, then the talent individually is going to shine,” he promised. “But if I have to explain the importance of everything, it is the character – the way we fight, the way we play, and we must have an identity.

“We have to. If our players take the shirt, they will know that it is the Manchester United team.

“Everybody thinks the same – running back, playing, enjoying [it]. This is what drives me. I can say the popular thing, which is to win.

“Everybody wants to win and I want to win with my players, with the fans but with an identity and one idea, that is the thing that I am focused on all the time.”

Amorim’s first fixture at the club will be against Ipswich Town on 24 November in the Premier League.
