Rúben Amorim praises five Manchester United stars for “great job” as they break nine-game trend

Rúben Amorim has praised five Manchester United players after the club finally break a nine-game trend in their 3-0 win over Leicester City.
Manchester United secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Leicester City, with Rasmus Højlund, Alejandro Garnacho, and Bruno Fernandes all on target to lift Rúben Amorim’s side to 13th in the Premier League.
After an even start, United broke the deadlock just past the half-hour mark when Fernandes set up Højlund for a clinical finish. Leicester pushed for an equaliser before the break, but Wilfred Ndidi and Patson Daka couldn’t convert their chances.
Early in the second half, Ayden Heaven was stretchered off and replaced by Toby Collyer. Garnacho had a goal ruled out for offside but made amends ten minutes later with a brilliant turn and finish to double United’s lead.
Fernandes sealed the win late on with a stunning strike, rounding off an impressive performance from Amorim’s men.
Amorim heaps praise on five players
Speaking with Manchester United’s official club channels after the full-time whistle, AMorim was full of praise for his back-line in the second half as the side closed out a clean sheet.
With the win all but secured, United’s defenders had to pull off some fantastic tackles and clearances to keep Leicester out, and one block in particular from Matthijs de Ligt has gained a lot of coverage.
When asked about the block from the Netherlands international, Amorim explained that he feels De Ligt has been doing “incredible things” in the last few weeks, and went on to praise a further four players.
“I think in the last three weeks Mata is doing incredible things,” Amorim said. “I hope he is going to the national team don’t play a lot of games but play a little bit because he’s doing amazing.
“Vic [Lindelöf], without many games this season, he did a really well against a striker that is really strong. Nous Mazraoui is dead. He’s completely… he’s fasting and he’s playing all of the minutes. He is amazing. [Diogo] Dalot is always Dalot, [Harry] Amass the young kid. They are doing a great job.”
Further on Amass being handed his debut on this 18th birthday, Amorim said: “Yes, and he had the best gift that a young kid can have. He’s playing for Manchester United and I hope he’s enjoying the day.”
A first clean sheet for nine games
The game against Leicester saw United finally break a series of horrid trends.
Højlund’s goal was his first in 21 fixtures, while Garnacho’s was his first in 25, and only his second strike under Amorim.
As for the defence, the Leicester result saw the side keep their first clean sheet in nine games and only their third this season.
The other two have come against Fulham away from home and FCSB in the Europa League, with the latter happening nine games ago, at the end of January.
Heading into the international break, Amorim will have time with many of his current first-team squad to see them rest and recover, as well as implement his ideas as the season enters its final chapter.
