Two stars are making Manchester United look “really good” under Rúben Amorim, says pundit
Two Manchester United stars have been highlighted as the players who are making Rúben Amorim’s side look “really good” following the draw against Liverpool.
Manchester United have looked like a dire team at points since Rúben Amorim took over, although a recent draw against Premier League leaders Liverpool has offered home hope.
Ahead of the Liverpool fixture, United had lost four in a row across the league and Carabao Cup, with many fearing the word for their trip to Anfield.
However, Amorim’s men put on a fantastic display as the Reds held one of Europe’s most in-form clubs to a 2-2 draw, with Lisandro Martínez and Amad Diallo both netting in the fixture.
Although some have criticised the club for celebrating a draw, what has encouraged people the most is the performance the squad put in, with the team looking organised and hungry.
Two players are making United look “really good” under Amorim
In reaction to the fixture, former United midfielder and MUTV regular Wes Brown discussed the result on the club’s media channels.
He chose to highlight Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo, who started as the midfield duo at Anfield, as two players who can make United look “really good” if they stay fit and continue starting together,
“Everyone played well, but Ugarte and Kobbie as well,” Brown explained on The Debate.
“Because when you go to them sort of places, you have to be so brave to get the ball, turn out, you know, do a little turn out of trouble just to keep the ball because they’re on you.
“And if you keep losing the ball, they just, you know, they do this counter-attack after counter-attack. And them two, for me, just really did excellent.
“And the Liverpool team sort of couldn’t get near them a little bit, and they controlled the game, passing it out, and did what they needed to do. And I thought, if them two can stay fit and play together a little bit more, it’s looking really good.”
Mainoo and Ugarte are United’s midfield for the rest of the season
United are weak in midfield, with many of Amorim’s options not cutting it due to poor performances, declining talent, or increasing age.
Christian Eriksen and Casemiro will leave the club in 2025, meaning United have to secure fresh faces in the summer, but for now, Ugarte and Mainoo have to remain the priority.
United have had plenty of time on the training pitch during the first few games, and the club are set to embark ont he rest of their Europa League campaign, but have two favourable fixrures against Rangers and FCSB as their remaining league stage games.
Ugarte and Mainoo must continue to play together as often as possible, and Amorim should only use his other midfielders when this duo needs to be rested.
It would also be a pleasure to see Toby Collyer get some minutes in the first-team in the coming weeks.
