Rúben Amorim has found “spectacular” Amad replacement after “fantastic” Manchester United display
Rúben Amorim has found his replacement for Amad after one Manchester United star put in a “spectacular” Premier League display against Tottenham.
Manchester United suffered yet another defeat as James Maddison’s first-half goal sealed a 1-0 victory for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs looked to control possession from the start, but United threatened early, with Rasmus Højlund, Alejandro Garnacho, and Diogo Dalot all testing the hosts inside the opening ten minutes. However, Tottenham struck moments later, as Maddison reacted quickest to a rebounded effort to put his side ahead.
United continued to create chances but failed to capitalise, heading into the break trailing 1-0. They upped the tempo in the second half, pushing forward with intent, yet their struggles in front of goal persisted.
With 20 minutes remaining, Tottenham regained control, but United pressed on. Late opportunities fell to Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee, yet key errors and a lack of cutting edge proved costly, as Rúben Amorim’s men left North London empty-handed.
Zirkzee’s “spectacular” performance vs Tottenham
Despite the poor result, Zirkzee and Dorgu were two highlights who did themselves proud against Tottenham despite recent criticism – especially the former.
The Netherlands international played well despite his limited time on the ball against Tottenham, having multiple shots and looking to play United out of danger when he could.
Zirkzee did miss one chance towards the end, which he can be forgiven for considering he often plays his best football slightly further away from goal than in the six-yard box, but his overall performance was overwhelmingly positive.
After a number of months of criticism and poor performances, Zirkzee is looking as if he is finally settling into himself at Old Trafford.
Amorim has found his Amad replacement
With Amad likely out until the end of the season after he ruptured his ankle ligament in training earlier this week, serious questions were being asked whether he could be replaced.

However, with Zirkzee’s positive performance in the right attacking midfield role coming despite the club’s negative result, Amorim has found his replacement.
“I think Josh is not a clear No. 9,” Amorim said after the game. “He played more as a No. 10. He is stronger physically, he is thinner, he is working really hard and playing in a better position for him. He’s winning more duels and is even faster.”
United now have six days until their next game, a trip to Merseyside to face Everton, and Amorim will no doubt be using Zirkzee as that right attacking midfielder as he prepares to face David Moyes.
