Rúben Amorim has brilliant trait that Manchester United stars must be warned about, says ex-Portugal man
Former Portugal defender Jose Fonte has explained that Manchester United stars must be warned about a brilliant trait Rúben Amorim possesses.
Rúben Amorim has been confirmed as Manchester United’s new head coach, stepping in after Erik ten Hag’s turbulent reign came to an end.
Ten Hag was dismissed last month following a disastrous run that left United 14th in the Premier League and 21st in their Europa League group, falling far short of expectations on all fronts.

Although Amorim’s appointment has been finalized, release clause issues have delayed his first match in charge. He is set to make his debut on Sunday, 24 November, when United take on Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
During the gap, Ruud van Nistelrooy served as interim manager, delivering three wins and a draw before being relieved of his duties to accommodate the arrival of Amorim’s newly assembled backroom team at Carrington.
Amorim’s brilliant trait
With Amorim taking his first week of training with his players this week, former Portugal international centre-back Jose Fonte has explained that the 39-year-old possesses a brilliant trait.
Speaking to jeffbet, Fonte explained that Amorim has the ability to switch from a casual mode to work mode with ease, and that he won’t take any nonsense from his players.
“Rúben Amorim won’t take any nonsense from players, he is a good guy that likes to have a laugh but when you have to work, you work,” Fonte explained.
“He can be demanding, as my former team-mate Luis Neto has told me who worked with him for many years. He was telling me that Amorim is an unbelievable coach, but he’s so demanding and so focused on tactical and attention to detail that it can wear on you a little bit – but not in a bad way.
“It’s very, very demanding. It’s very full on. But if you want to be successful, you’ve got to do that. That’s what’s going to separate you from the others.”
Amorim’s player clashes
Speaking further, Fonte explained that he could recall an instance where he clashed with Islam Slimani while at Sporting and that Amorim took swift action to sanction the striker.
“Rúben Amorim has clashed with players in the past, one I remember is Islam Slimani, the former Leicester striker, when he was at Sporting,” Fonte continued.
“He had a big personality and when he upset the manager, he was training with the reserve team and was quickly out of the door. With Amorim it’s his way or no way.
“He believes fully in what he does and he puts the good of the team first. His players have to respect that and if they don’t then they will be out the door. He won’t take any nonsense.”
So far, United players have reacted well to the training sessions, and the club are set to enjoy the dawn of a new era.
