Rúben Amorim has issued a positive injury update surrounding his Manchester United squad following the recent Premier League loss against Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United suffered another frustrating defeat as James Maddison’s first-half goal earned Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 victory in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs controlled possession early on, but United created the first clear-cut chances, with Rasmus HøjlundAlejandro Garnacho, and Diogo Dalot all going close inside the opening ten minutes. However, Tottenham struck moments later, with Maddison reacting quickest to a rebound to put the hosts ahead.

United pressed for an equaliser but lacked a cutting edge, heading into half-time trailing 1-0. They showed greater urgency after the break, but their struggles in the final third continued as they failed to find a way past the Spurs defence.

As the game entered the final stages, Tottenham regained control, but United kept pushing. Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee both had late chances, yet key mistakes and wayward finishing saw Rúben Amorim’s side leave North London empty-handed once again.

United hit with major injuries vs Tottenham

As has been a theme at United in the last few years, Amorim was hit with mulitple huge injury issues just before the club travelled to face Tottenham, with 12 first-team players unavailable.

The day before the game, it was confirmed that Kobbie Mainoo had suffered an injury in training, while Amad may be out for the season. Further, it was stated that Toby Collyer and Manuel Ugarte were major doubts for the London trip.

Then, on Sunday, it was confirmed that Mainoo would be out for six weeks, while Collyer and Ugarte didn’t travel. Amad is expected to be out for the season, and Leny Yoro and Christian Eriksen didn’t make the squad due to illness.

This was all on top of the existing injuries. Goalkeepers Altay Bayındır and Tom Heaton were not fit to travel, while Lisandro Martínez is out for the season and Mason Mount is not expected to return until next month.

Luke Shaw and Jonny Evans are both out with muscle problems, and the former has received multiple setbacks in his rehabilitation after initially being due to return to the squad in January.

Amorim issues positive injury update

However, speaking to the press, Amorim has explained that he hopes to have a few of these players back for the Everton game this coming weekend.

“It [the injury and illness situation this week] doesn’t matter, it’s in the past,” Amorim said. “We want to recover the players, I think we can recover some players for the next game [against Everton].

“From this moment until the end of the season, it’s going to be like that so we have to be together to finish the season and then start over.”

Two of these are hopefully Yoro and Eriksen, who will hopefully recover from illness in time to be available, while Bayındır’s current problem is thought to be minor.

Collyer and Ugarte’s injuries are also expected not to keep them out for too long, although official confirmation will likely come later this week.
