Rúben Amorim has delivered fantastic news as Manchester United prepare to face Real Sociedad in the second leg of their crunch Europa League knockout clash.

Manchester United turn their attention back to the Europa League as they host Real Sociedad in the second leg of their round of 16 clash at Old Trafford.

The first leg in San Sebastián saw Joshua Zirkzee give Rúben Amorim’s side the lead before Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty brought the tie level at 1-1 on aggregate.

With a quarter-final spot on the line, both teams will be eager to take control. The winner will face either Olympique Lyonnais or FCSB, with the French side carrying a 3-1 lead into their second leg.

United’s last outing ended in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal, a performance that offered plenty of encouragement. With the Old Trafford crowd behind them, the Reds will be aiming to take a big step forward in Europe on Thursday night.

Amorim delivers quadruple injury update

On Wednesday morning, it was confirmed that, after a three month absense, Mason Mount had returned to Manchester United first-team training.

Amorim then spoke with the press later in the day, where he confirmed that it would be too soon for Mount to play on Thursday.

Beyond this, he also confirmed that Leny Yoro is out with injury vs Real Sociedad, while Harry Maguire will not feature, but that the latter may return on the weekend. Manuel Ugarte is also back in contension after missing the last two games.

“Mason Mount is too soon,” Amorim said. “Leny [Yoro] is out. Harry Maguire cannot play this one. I hope to have him for Sunday [against Leicester City]. Manu [Ugarte] is in the squad and I think there is no-one returning.”

Although there has been a worry over the status of Yoro’s injury, Amorim delivered the fantastic news that although the Frenchman cannot play either game this week, his absence is not a long-term problem.

“No, no [Yoro’s absence] is not long term. Leny cannot play this game and the other game [Leicester].”

What is United’s other injury news?

Meanwhile, United will still be without a host of first-team players for the Thursday evening crunch clash at Old Trafford.

Lisandro Martínez remains out for the season, while Kobbie Mainoo is not expected to return until later this month at the earliest. Amad may be out for the rest of the campaign too, although Amorim is hopeful he may return for the final few games.

Jonny Evans, Tom Heaton, Altay Bayındır, and Luke Shaw were not spotted in training, although Chido Obi was despite being inelegiable for selection.

Youngsters Harry Amass and Jack Fletcher were part of the group and are available for selection, while Patrick Dorgu will return to the matchday squad after serving the second of a three-game domestic suspension against Arsenal.
