Ruben Amorim needs £65m to build new Man Utd line-up with two ‘outstanding’ signings
Ruben Amorim could greatly improve his best Manchester United starting line-up with two ‘outstanding’ signings for around £65 million.
Manchester United have shown clear improvement under new head coach Ruben Amorim since he arrived at the club last month.
Results have been mixed but performances have slowly been improving as the current squad get used to his new tactics and approach.
Many players have impressed in recent games such as Amad Diallo, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte and we’re beginning to see what Amorim’s strongest team will look like.
However, there are also several roles and positions which look to need clear upgrades in order for the new boss to have success in his system.
With financial restraints, it is unlikely that all of these issues will be solved by next season but there could definitely be a couple of solutions through the transfer window.
Amorim will want to improve United’s wingback options
United’s most prominent issues appears to be at wingback, which is no surprise considering their problems at fullback beforehand.
Mazraoui has looked at his best in the back three, while Diogo Dalot does not suit the left wingback position where he has been filling in at.
Meanwhile, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia still have question marks over them due to their injury troubles.
Amad is the only player who has looked very impressive in the wingback role but it already appears clear that his future is in the front three in the right no.10 role.
Thankfully, there appears to be many top quality options who United could move for in the transfer market including one of their own former players.
Fernandez and Quenda would be great options for United
Alvaro Fernandez has been ‘outstanding’ at Benfica since his United departure last summer and is available for just over £15 million for the Reds, who included a buyback option in his contract.
A potential return to Old Trafford has been well reported and former manager Erik ten Hag even admitted that the club were still monitoring his situation.
The Spaniard already has experience playing as a wingback and has great attacking numbers this season. United need an option in that position who are comfortable in the final third.
He has also greatly improved defensively under the leadership of Roger Schmidt at Benfica.
Meanwhile, on the other side, United could look at more naturally attacking options and Amorim’s former starlet Geovany Quenda is one option being considered.
Reports have explained that United have met with the 17-year-old’s agents and are prepared to make a £50 million bid for the player next summer, with Sporting open to a deal at that price.
Quenda excelled under Amorim in Portugal in the right wingback position and could offer United a young and exciting option on that flank to back up Amad in attacks.
Those two players might cost around £65 million and would address two of the most important issues that have been shown in the early days under Amorim.
