Ruben Amorim has sent a message to Manchester United fans after the draw against Ipswich Town that will remind them of Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United‘s new boss, Rúben Amorim, had a difficult first game in charge, being held to a 1-1 draw by Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

The head coach immediately implemented his new 3-4-3 shape, with Diogo Dalot and Amad Diallo as the wingbacks.

Several players looked slightly uncomfortable with the new formation and instructions, which is understandable after only a few days on the training pitch.

Amorim’s ideas are very different to those of Erik ten Hag, who departed the club last month, and it will take time for these ideas to become second nature for the players.

“No, it’s different things,” replied Amorim when asked if confidence issues were the reason behind him saying the players were ‘thinking too much’ during his first game.

“They are thinking too much because things are so different. Some details… they used to pass the ball and go forward – even the centre backs – now they have to go back.

“These type of things, they start to go forward and they have to think too much.

“Dalot used to pass the ball to centre-backs and go inside and play as a midfielder, now he has to stick in this position. So, it’s hard for the players in three days to cope with everything.”

Amorim said during his first interview with Sky Sports that his team would need to ‘suffer’ in order to improve. He has already assured that he will not back down from his plans even if results do not initially go United’s way.

This will remind people of the beginning of Erik ten Hag’s tenure, where the Dutchman adjusted his ideas after losing his first two Premier League games.

He would then go onto say that he could not play the same way his team at Ajax played due to the player personnel. Amorim appears less willing to compromise, which will please many fans.

“We have two ways; we forget about the new idea and that is why I was brought here, and we try to cope with the things that they used to do – next year at the same stage we will be here with the same problems,” explained Amorim.

“Or we start now, we risk a little bit, we suffer a little bit and in the next year we will be better. So we have to risk a little bit.”
