Rúben Amorim admits cannot answer “difficult question” in class promise to Manchester United fans
Rúben Amorim has admitted there is a “difficult” Manchester United question he cannot answer amid a class promise to Manchester United’s fans.
Rúben Amorim has spent the last five weeks adapting to his new role as Manchester United’s head coach, having replaced Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
In his first nine games, Amorim has overseen four wins, one draw, and four defeats across all competitions. Despite the uneven results, there are clear signs that his tactical approach is starting to influence the team’s performances.
Amad Diallo, Bruno Fernandes, and Noussair Mazraoui have particularly impressed, thriving under Amorim’s guidance and establishing themselves as key players in his plans.
Amorim has also navigated several early challenges with calm authority, setting a professional tone and building a foundation for a promising future at the club.
Amorim admits one question is “difficult” to answer
When United hired Amorim, Ten Hag had left United 14th in the Premier League table, and while their position had changed a number of times since then, as of Christmas Day, the club sit 13th in the table.
While their on-pitch performances have, to some extent, improved, many have pointed to United’s lack of improvement in the league table as a rather embarrassing indictment of the club’s current struggles.
In his pre-match press conference ahead of a league tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers, the rather blunt question of why United sit 13th in the league, while sides such as Bournemouth are 5th.
It was further pointed out by the same journalist that “Real Madrid or Bayern Munich wouldn’t be 13th,” although this lacks the context of the Premier League being a much higher-quality league overall than La Liga or the Bundesliga.
“It’s a difficult question to answer,” United’s coach admitted in reply. “We have to know that we don’t let this be normal.
“I understand that it’s a tough moment and it’s on me. Since the first day that I arrived, it’s on me because I’m responsible for the team. So we cannot think about that, we just have to think about improving, to understand the context and not focus on what happened in the past.”
Amorim continued, giving a class answer to the journalist and making a promise to fans that he knows what he is doing and has a clear vision for United. Amorim is no stranger to rebuilding clubs, having done so at Sporting CP.
“The present is this, what we have to do for the future is [make this] not happen again. If I knew, I will solve all of the problems of this club. I know what I’m going to do, that is so clear for me.
“That’s why I think I’m feeling, not relaxed because I’m really frustrated also like the fans. But I know what to do. We have to solve some problems step by step, finding answers for everything, but it’s a very difficult moment. We understand the fans and we will fight that.”
