Rúben Amorim told to make shock move for Darwin Nunez amid Manchester United’s goal struggles
Rúben Amorim has been told he should make a shock swoop for Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez amid continuing goal struggles at Manchester United.
Manchester United are set to prioritise attacking reinforcements this summer as Rúben Amorim’s side continue to struggle in front of goal.
United’s lack of firepower has been a recurring issue this season, with the team frequently failing to score more than once per match. Their inconsistency at Old Trafford has only deepened concerns.
Last month, the club loaned out several first-team forwards, including Antony to Real Betis, Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa, and Ethan Wheatley to Walsall for the remainder of the season.
Despite these departures, United did not bring in any attacking reinforcements during the January transfer window. Their only additions were defensive signings—left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and centre-back Ayden Heaven from Arsenal—though Amorim has suggested that Dorgu could also be used in a more advanced role.
Amorim told to go for Nunez
Amid United’s poor goalscoring record, Amorim has been told by former United striker Dwight Yorke that he should look to sign Liverpool front man Darwin Nunez this summer after the player has struggled for starts under Arne Slot this season.
“I would be brave and take a look at Nunez – if Liverpool make him available. He’s got a little roughness around the edges. United need somebody up there who can be the top man – they’re missing a player who has got that belief and confidence,” Yorke said via The Mirror.
“Who has got the swagger to be the main man at Man United? I would take a punt on that guy. He’s still only 25. Nunez has got a physical presence. Jhon Duran, who I told United to go get, has gone to Saudi. You’re not going to get Alexander Isak.
“Nunez could be on the market if Liverpool look to bring in a forward this summer. If they sign one then someone’s got to be offloaded to balance the books. If they’re going to offload Nunez, I will tell United to take a serious look at him.”
United must look elsewhere for striker
Despite Yorke’s call, signing Nunez would be a bad call. Although he is a Uruguayan international and is capable of scoring wonderful goals, Nunez is too inconsistent.

United’s striker pairing, Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, have scored just two goals in the last 16 games between them, and their other first-team attacker, Alejandro Garnacho, has not netted in 19 appearances.
United need a strong and stable goalscorer in their front line, and with multiple available on the market in the coming months, the club must look elsewhere than Nunez.
There are reports that United are making advances for Lille striker Jonathan David, who is a free agent in the summer, while Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is said to be keen on a move to Old Trafford.
