Rúben Amorim responds to Manchester United transfer window blunder with fresh Chido Obi-Martin move
Rúben Amorim has seemingly responded to Manchester United’s recent failings in the transfer window by making a fresh move with Chido Obi-Martin.
Manchester United’s 2025 winter transfer window has faced heavy criticism from fans after the club failed to strengthen key areas of Rúben Amorim’s squad.
While United added defensive reinforcements with the signings of Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven, the absence of attacking additions has left supporters frustrated.
The club also saw three first-team forwards—Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Ethan Wheatley—depart on loan, alongside several Academy players who moved in search of more game time.
One bright spot is the signing of highly rated left-back Diego Leon, who will officially join United on 1 July after finishing the season with Cerro Porteño in Paraguay.
Amorim responds to United’s transfer blunder
Before deadline day, Amorim stated that United were doing “everything” to try and bring in a forward before the window shut, but warned that the club were also keen not to repeat past mistakes.
However, once the 3 February deadline passed, United still had no striker, and fans are worried about the prospect of going into the remainder of the campaign with Rasmus Højlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Alejandro Garnacho, and Amad as the only forward options.
However, according to fresh reports, Amorim has seemingly chosen to add fresh blood to his attacking line by promoting young striker Chido Obi-Martin to first-team training on Tuesday morning.
Obi-Martin was signed from Arsenal late last year, and the 17-year-old has been on fire in the Academy so far this season, scoring nine goals in ten games, including a hat-trick against Nottingham Forest in the U18s Premier League.
Why Amorim picked Chido Obi-Martin in training
When Obi-Martin’s move to United broke on social media, there were reports that United saw him as a possible third-choice striker behind Højlund and Zirkzee. However, he has since remained in the Academy as he adjusts to life in Manchester.
But, with United now having included him in first-team training, many have wondered if Amorim sees the youngster as a possible factor to help solve to his side’s goal scoring problems.
However, as further stated, it remains unlikely that Obi-Martin will be picked for United’s upcoming FA Cup clash against Leicester City.
United included the young striker in first-team training to start handing him experience playing with senior professionals. Although his inclusion this time has nothing to do with potential team selection, it is undoubtedly a sign of things to come.
