Rúben Amorim is reportedly set to give two Manchester United stars less of a role despite being a pair who did well to keep Erik ten Hag in a job at Manchester United.

Rúben Amorim has replaced Erik ten Hag as Manchester United‘s head coach after the Dutchman left United in dire straights.

At the end of last month, Ten Hag was sacked after leading United to 14th in the Premier League table and 21st in the Europa League, sitting well behind their opponents across the board.

However, due to release clause technicalities, Amorim has yet to take charge of his first United game but is set to do so next weekend when the club travels to face Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday, 24 November.

In between Ten Hag’s final game and Amorim’s first, Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge of the side, guiding them to three wins and a draw in the interim before he was let go from his post due to the new backroom staff the Portuguese coach has installed at Carrington.

Two stars set for less of a role

While Amorim is set to take charge of his first United game next weekend, he will conduct his first training session on Monday, although several first-team players are not expected to be back at Carrington until Thursday.

Despite this, Amorim has already started studying the squad he has at his disposal and has pinpointed who will and will not be receiving as much game time compared to the era under Ten Hag.

According to CaughtOffside, Amorim will likely give midfield duo Christian Eriksen and Casemiro “less of a role” from now on.

Further, he is set to use Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo as the lynchpins of his two-man midfield as he installs his famed 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford.

Two of Erik ten Hag’s finest

Although Casemiro and Eriksen had limited roles during the 2023/24 season due to poor form and injuries, prior to Amorim’s appointment, they were two of the Dutchman’s most consistent players. They kept him from getting sacked earlier than he did.

Eriksen has four goals and three assists already this season. At the same time, Casemiro, bar one horrid performance against Liverpool, has been solid in midfield and scored the club’s final goal before Ten Hag was relieved of his duties.

Eriksen is not expected to stay at United beyond this summer as his contract expires at the end of June 2025, while Casemiro may be sold this summer.

Although CaughtOffside states that Casemiro could be made available for £30 million in January, the Brazilian’s exit seems unlikely for now.
