Ruben Amorim has started Alejandro Garnacho in the last two games for Manchester United amid questions over his future.

Manchester United won consecutive games against Rangers and Fulham last week and that will hopefully lead to increased confidence within the group.

Ruben Amorim decided to start Alejandro Garnacho in both of those games. The Argentine has not been a consistent starter under the new head coach.

It has been heavily reported that the 20-year-old could leave Old Trafford this month, with Chelsea and Napoli the two clubs with major interest.

Despite the noise surrounding the winger, Amorim decided to put trust in him in the last two fixtures.

In the Europa League against Rangers he was one of the most dangerous players but slightly less impactful at Craven Cottage.

Amorim makes stance clear on Garnacho

Amorim believes that the Academy graduate is improving in several different aspects of the game, and he is even figuring out tweaks to get the best out of him.

Garnacho is not a player who thrives when playing in congested space and prefers to isolate defenders one-on-one in wide areas.

The United boss usually asks his two no.10s to pick up spaces inside the pitch while the wingbacks hold the width. However, against Fulham, it was Noussair Mazraoui coming inside which allowed Garnacho to stay wider.

Yet, despite the positive words from Amorim on the player, he is still unsure whether the club will decide to sell him this month.

“That nobody knows,” he replied when asked by journalists if Garnacho was staying. “Anything can happen.

“But with Garnacho, he’s improving in every department of the game, the way that he recovers, the understanding of the game when he defends.

“I’m trying to find the best position for him – today he played a little bit more open, not so much inside. We need guys with the one-v-one [ability].

“But like I say I don’t know what’s going to happen until the end of the window.”

Garnacho sale comes down to INEOS chiefs

It seems quite clear that Amorim wants to keep Garnacho at the club but it also appears that the final decision is not with him.

The Portuguese coach can praise the player all he likes but the fact is that he doesn’t completely suit his system and United may be able to get £60 million for his sale.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS leaders will be looking at that prospect and thinking it is too good to turn down due to the financial situation the club are in.

In the end, Amorim will be demanding a top quality replacement if Garnacho leaves but United fans will have mixed feelings after seeing another Academy starlet leave the club.
